Dude, that last pic is as far out as anything I've ever seen, it's cosmic, somehow it has a whole lotta meaning for me, probably on an archetypal level (in Jungian terms), and perhaps also since i read all the Carlos Castaneda books when I was a teenager (my mom turned me onto them, as well as the Beatles and the Doors, uh, Ma, this album "Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mind", it has this song, "The End". Oh, you've heard it, well... OK, I don't even wanna know...), and I've been into Sam Peckinpah's "Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia", which is one of my all-time favorites, mostly due to the fact that he has a beautiful woman (reminiscent of some of my past girlfriends, actually and a present off and on one, also), where the major theme, in my mind is, "When is enough enough?". he has a beautiful woman, but not a lot of money. She wants to be together and forget the quest for gold, as it were, but the main character (Warren Oates, a great actor) is just too DRIVEN to slow down and smell the roses... and then we see the consequences... OUCH. I can relate to it on a couple levels, at least. IT IS BRILLIANT!!! Hey, MORE LIKE THAT PLEASE!!! It is evocative, mystical (though I am hesitant to use that word), and highly resonant in my mind(s)... Matter-of-fact, as soon as I saw the wood panelling onthe first pic, I was hooked, but that last scene steals the show, IT'S AWESOME!!! ...and of course, I am thinking that somehow you grokked (Robert Heinlein, college, "I Fear No Evil" and "Stranger In A Strange Land", which reminds me Leon Russel's album "Leon... and the Shelter People" is AWESOME if you dig that vibe, and I do, the early '70s Joe Cocker/Leon Russell trip...)anyway, GROK'd my mental vibe of late and somehow created that to hook me back into raving here about your work... and perhaps subc onsciously that played a role... WHO REALLY KNOWS?!?! Not me, for sure.
Hey, DIG IT< MORE LIKE THAT! Also, I have some official stuff from this show (I think), and though I'm not jhuge on '71 THIS IS ABOUT THE TIME '71 GETS REALLY INTERESTING FOR ME! LOVE, MAN, IT'S GRRRRREEEEAAATTT!!!!
Good work, great work, excellent work, fantastic, phantasmagoric, even, I DIG IT!!!! Hey, some suggestions in general: Early '69, '73, '74... and JERRY GARCIA BAND, '80s material (a side project, for sure, but JUST AS IMPORTANT AS GRATEFUL DEAD! "Love in the Afternoon", "Gomorrah", "Senor", "I'll Take A Melody", "Dear Prudence", some of the best "Deal"s you'll ever lay ears on, "Mississippi Moon", "Waiting For A Miracle", "Sisters and Brothers", "I Shall Be Released", "The Maker", "Run For The Roses", "Catfish John", SO MUCH GREAT STUFF!!!
Hey, how about a GD Southwest show with a similar theme, the hallucinogens, snakes, eagles, brujos, medicine men, the journey, the trip, into the mystic... and cactus! Oh boy, you've raised the bar!!! GOOD WORK!!! I LOVE THESE "ENVIRONMENTAL" THEMES!!! It could work for ANY show ANYWHERE, include some more landscapes, nature, animals, totems, icons, images.... ITT'S THE NEXT STEP IN THE EVOLUTION OF THE SERIES!!! ...and it's BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!
You do get that I like it, right? RIGHT ON! THANK YOU!!!! ...and a great show to pick, thanks. Made 2009 end on a very sweet note (and I needed that!).
Hey, call that last image "Night Of The Hunter ! ! ! ! |

| The "wood paneling" is actually oil-based paint on wood - and the mystical GD themes are probably self-evident because it was painted by a Deadhead who drives an all-white 1972 VW bus with a sticker on the side that says "Old Time Is Not A Crime." I believe he was just down in Miami with the bus on 12/28, probably selling "Bunker Brew" out of the back - you probably have heard of Bunker Brew - the BEST home-brew in the Mid-West...like "Pale-Rider" Pale Ale...and American Beauty...originally brewed in Chicago, now on the road to places like Maine and Tennessee. |
