Thanks alot for sharing your recording.

".....lets get a guitarist that plays somewhat like Garcia"

Thats cool and all but to have somebody strain their voice to sing like Garcia is the part that ruins it for me, especially when its a pretty bad impersonation.

Don't get me wrong JK can play guitar, I mean he should seeing that he makes a living emulating somebody else's sound.
This is definetly not the best postGD band as TOO easily was.

This music sounds great but some songs turn to cheese once JK starts singing.

I don't know who cheesed it up more JK or Warren.
Dstone5553 2010-01-02 15:35:26
Yeah...cause nothing is better than when Bob sings Standing or when Phil sings Eyes or Franks.

Get a clue buddy.

No one is going to sound as good as Garcia cause he knew how to sing as well as anyone in history but everyone and their dog would rather hear John sing Garcia/Hunter thand Phil or Bob.

It's easy to see you were not there because you would feel the same way if you were--that's a promise!

Bob has been butchering Jerry's songs for years with his horrible phrasing and talk-singing b.s. Phil has an absolutely horrible voice and should never ever sing. He's had such great talent in all "Friends" and he should just let them sing. I also can't figure out why bob is singing on "Jerry" songs with this lineup when JK does a fantastic job singing AND playing... but i can't figure out a lot of things the boys have been doing the last few years.. TOO many drugs i guess

"Crazy Engine is about as close as we will get to the JGB"

I would argue that JGB Band is as close as we are going to get to JGB. Stu Allen is much better than the over rated Kimock imo. This show was amazing. I almost don't feel so bad now missing out on Phish in Miami :)

Thanks for the upload, Happy New Year!
lovehaight 2010-01-02 19:10:45
God, I would rather hear Bobby or Phil ANY day than some loser who tries, and fails to emulate Jerry...when he masturbates, do you think he wants to do Jerry, or to be done by Jerry?
lovehaight 2010-01-02 19:16:10
and I second the cheesyiness of the voice, like Limberger left in the sun..just fucking awful...
ronskiiiii 2010-01-02 19:33:36
I enjoyed Furthur very much. The best Grateful Dead is never again to be. It does bring me much joy to see Bob and Phil perform. I loved the Asbury Park show as did all others on the floor, especially the kids.

I agree, JK should sing as many Jerry songs as possible. I do like when Bob, Phil and JK trade versus. Anyway, you gotta enjoy what you got. You ain't never getting the whole bag of goodies again.

The Phish NYE run in Miami is outstanding. Furthur is outstanding. Elvis Costello's Spectacle on Sundance is outstanding. Crank up Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. What a voice and rockin' soul blues band. LIFE IS FUCKIN' GREAT FOR MUSIC LOVERS. Complainers should get their hemeroids looked at quit jerkin off all day.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! THIS SHOW LOOKS INSANE. FURTHUR IS THE NEW GRATEFUL DEAD AND THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!!!

Get a clue......the real Grateful Dead passed into history over 30 years ago.
ejb 2010-01-02 21:50:04

WTF? Lay off the shwag kid.
Its a shame you didn't get to see Jerry so I guess some dude straining his voice to sing like him might be cool to you.

Also you're alone with your statement, you must not hit the boards too often on the subject.

The music does sound great though. JK can play the sound pretty good guitarwise.

Im simply glad that the boys are making music - interpret it as you want (as all good art) - these guys are commited to futhuring their art form to a new and wonderful place. If you see/listen to these shows expecting a Grateful Dead experience in my opinion you'll be disappointed from the start. Not that the music is lacking, but that the music is a different expression of a primal connection. It is not the Grateful Dead nor should it be. It is a group of guys attempting to find that place, that synergy, that gets them off - the result??? We get off, too!!! C'mon, folks, the fact that these guys are committed to their art is simply something to praise. Sure, be critical of the music as music. I've never been one to sugar coat the plodding renditions of songs we've been subjected to with some reinterpretations. The fact (to me) of this art is that these guys seem to be approaching it with a reinvigorated passion. I love the Q. I love a ton of RatDog stuff, and I love some of the previous Other Ones, The Dead, incarnations - however, I hear something in this interpretation that exceeds these forms in a way that I can't totally describe. The Q was a beautiful form that - in my opinion - stands alone in the post-Jerry world of this conversation. This, however, is different, in that it connects to that root song-based form that made my experience with the Grateful Dead what it was.

First off, an excellent recording and show....I like these swedish made mics....great bass response

Kimock understands Garcias use of scales, phrasing and cord progressions in the music, and applies them in his own way, without imitating Garcia. I think this was why Jerry was one of his biggest fans. I would not consider Kimock overrated, at all.

Likewise, both Stu and John understand the gameplan and do a wonderful job of filling in for the "grate one"......I would not want to be in thier shoes, as we are a very demanding audience.....good thing these guys deliver.

Many thanks to the taper, uploader, and seeders. I enjoy the discussion and debate, and even find the trolls amusing.

Happy New Year!

Can't wait to hear "Time"! "Ticking away a monent that makes up a dull day!" However, I don't think it will be dull at all! Thanks for the upload and thanks for all those who believe that "Rock'n'Roll" is better than "No Rock'n'Roll"! It's still nice to know that someone is taking the reigns (sp?) for the next generation, despite the "soul" the Fat Man gave. That will never be "recreated". I will criticize the depatures with the rest, but "soul" is, unfortunately, very precious. Most keep theirs close to their sleeves, nevermind displaying theirs in front of thousands! And I believe, with others, that Jerry gave his full and unconditionally! Very rare and always unique.
Nevertheless, I will look forward to hearing those who give their renditions (as they see it so) and keep listening for them to display own unconditional soul, like our brother, Jerry. If anyone should know how that was done it should be some of these guys, right? Thanks for the upload! I hope I will be grooving more than cringing. Probably will be an expectable request for this optomistic soul (despite government tryanny!)!
Thanks,
Dave

For all you complaining and being overly critical of JK who plays in Furthur, please go to the Phish concerts instead. The name of this band is Furthur, not the Grateful Dead or the Dead or the Other Ones. The name of the band if Furthur and the play Grateful Dead covers. I have seen about 210 Grateful Dead shows between 1985-1995. If you were at the New Years show like I was, you would not be mindlessly rambling your comparisons. You probably think the Rolling Stones are better at Not Fade Away and Merle Haggard doing Mama Tried. And how many other Grateful Dead songs were covers? So JK doing a cover is a Jerry Garcia rip-off?
"If this ain't the real thing, then it's close enough to pretend."
Everyone who went to the show will tell you that it was the best sounding covers/versions of Grateful Dead in a long time. Plus Time is a cover too, so if you say Pink Floyd does it better, you would be correct. It is their song, but they broke up when Roger Waters left, so even Pink Floyd after 1985 is a cover band. Therefore, go see Phish and stay on Phish tour and Phish boards because those guys are all still together, but the last time I checked, they have sounded like crap since 1998 up until their 2009 reunion.
candleman 2010-01-03 02:01:24
what a bunch of whiners.

thanks for the great recording of the boys

and i think it is the best sounding band since 95.
dglueck 2010-01-03 02:07:38
I m listening to this great exhibition starting with "Time". F-ing awesome! However, I think Phil did not do so good vocally on their version of "Time". But we've heard all we can on that subject, I think. Well, he is not so bad for a 70 year old, come to think of it. Nice transition into UJB! But there must be some special guests on After Midnight, right? Soulds like the JGB ladies. And what's up with "All You Need Is Love" studio version to open New Years?
I was at 2/26/1990. They played the entire Wish You Were Here album during intermission. Then they opened up with one of the best Scarlet>Fires ever, IMHO. I was at some other show in Oakland where they play "Axis Bold As Love" during intermission. WTF!!!! Love it!!!
Surprise, surprise, surprise ("The Wall").
Dave
Golden Road is as good as it "would have been" if my soul-brother Jerry had stepped up and forced the jam post 1967! Which I will point out....HE DID NOT despite my eternal love.
