-- THE SHACK PROJECT --
This is an effort to seed all existing MMW shows, and yes, preserving the original SHN/FLAC filesets. The seeding will proceed chronologically for the most part, with exceptions as we feel the vibe to seed other gigs from other times.

Thanks to MMW for allowing their music to be recorded....really, thank you.

Huge thanks goes out to the tapers, without whom this wouldn't be possible...and those that have helped get the tunes to our ears.

And thanks to the other 5 guys I've dragged into this and who seem committed to the cause: Louie, Mike Tom, Todd & Jeff....we're all listening to these shows and hopefully circulating the best versions.

All shows listed here in SHN/FLAC will be seeded:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmw

These shows will be seeded as well, either by me or by one of a few other kind souls:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwaccess

Shows listed here circulate in some manner. We are looking for as close to the original source as we can get so if you can help out with any of the following, we'd all appreciate it:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwneeds (this list is in the process of being compiled...maybe forever?)

I've started a thread over here for us to be able to discuss this project:
http://week4paug.net/index.php/topic=1573.0

enjoy the grooves,
Louie, Mike, Tom, Todd, Jeff & dug

***FOR ALL YOUR SETLIST NEEDS***
MMW Performance History @ http://mmwhistory.com - this is a fantastic resource that allows you to look at info on gigs by MMW and related side projects and guest appearances; big thanks to Tom for creating this page.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We are actively updating all setlists as we seed, and also others outside the particular order of the project.

db.etree is also being updated in tandem with the updates to Tom's pages -- both the source and show pages.

The 5th and final night of the run... Enjoy!
-Tom

Also, I've added something new to the mmwhistory.com web pages -- We're now including any ticket stubs, posters & photos from the shows that confirm the date & venue of the show... If you have any that you want included, just send me a scan or photo of it to the email listed at the top of that page. Thanks.

Thanks Shack Project -- Its great to re-live mmw's amazing year 2000! As always, keep um coming...

Meanwhile, I've got a quick tech question: I just upgraded to a new mac, and would like to know if anyone recommends any new apps for lossless file handling/listening -- I'm looking to upgrade wherever possible.

Here's what I've been using:

listening -- macamp lite x
compress etc -- xACT
download -- Vuze

Anything I should switch to? Suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance!
cvillehick 2010-01-06 13:04:09
xACT and Vuze are IT for mac. know nothing of the player--is that a shn/flac player, or wav/aiff? i've always used iTunes after decoding...
locusH.264 2010-01-06 16:15:04

@cvillehick

Cheers, thanks for seconding!

macamp lite x is a nice little shn/flac/wav/mp3/etc player, great for listening without decoding. Supports playlists too. Its no longer being updated, but still available for free. I've always been pretty happy with it, but curious what others are using...

locus - did you do any research before picking out your new mac? I've been looking to upgrade myself. Did you find any relatively trustworthy reviews/resources? Or was it just Eeny meeny miny moe? :)

Sorry to push more off topic on your thread, Tom. Hope you don't mind. Many many thanks for the post!
twilight 2010-01-06 22:07:36
Not a problem... as long as the discussion comes back around to old ticket stubs. :)
moniker 2010-01-07 00:09:36
Ha! Yes... ticket stubs. I'm still looking for that stock pile I have hiding around here somewhere. I'll find it yet.
caravaggio1600 2010-01-07 00:20:44
I went to 4 of these shows. Thanks so much for posting these...
locusH.264 2010-01-07 14:45:28

Moniker -- i've been a mac convert for several years, so for me it was just a matter of selecting the machine that best fit my needs and my budget.

Are you looking to upgrade from windows to mac? I can't recommend the switch enough! I use an up-to-date windows machine at work, and remain astounded by how sluggish, temperamental and error-prone it is, even compared to my OLD mac.

and ditto, apologies for going off topic! i look forward to seeing any old show posters that surface.

cvillehick 2010-01-07 16:14:16
ditto apologies and ditto ^^locusH just above. i have a 2006 dual core 1.something GHz processor, so slightly old skool at this point ;). when i got it, setting up bittorrenting was a snap--i d/led Azureus/Vuze, and Mac did it ALL for me--it took me an entire weekend when i first started torrenting to set PC up--that's not necessarily it's fault, but there was an extensive amuont of changes the user had to make, long tutorials, etc. when i opened Azureus/Vuze the first time, it immediately opened a port of its choosing, which i'd prefer more than me doing it. second, it's worth noting that i bought a DAW to record my band more cheaply than the crap local studio with ridiculous hourly rates. i ran Cubase LE, which came with the DAW, and it's not even supposedly capable to be used on an OS X machine--no problems, recordings sound great...it's magic dude....

now, back to looking for my tickets from 10 years ago!
moniker 2010-01-07 16:31:09
locus - Thanks for the reply. As a graphic designer, I've been using macs for close to 20 years. My home machine is in dire need of an upgrade. I thought maybe you (or anyone else out there) might have found a relatively unbiased resource on what's current in macland. Did you buy yours directly from Apple?

caravaggio - would love to hear any recollections you can offer of these shows. I especially like hearing from those that got to see a few in a row. Do you remember enjoying one night more than any of the others? Were the crowds similar each night?

And... I encourage all to dig out those ticket stubs!
locusH.264 2010-01-07 17:06:31

cvillehick -- ditto ditto. macs make everything easier!

moniker -- word. I was in my fiance's office recently and saw one station with a huge mac hovering amidst the PC's --must be the graphic designer's desk, I said!

I bought direct from Apple, as this seems the easiest way to ensure that what you're getting is the most current, OS and all. They provide all the specs and factory upgrade possibilities right up front. My feeling is to just get what I can afford, since you really can't go wrong.

If your plans to buy aren't immediate, it might be worth checking a mac news(nerds?) site to see if a new release is expected any time soon... ie www.macworld.com

oh, and as you may already know, Snow Leopard rips!

sorry all for the continued shameless mac promotion. I've got several stubs, but no scanner on hand...
moniker 2010-01-08 09:20:11
Thanks, locus. I appreciate your comments.

I'd be more than willing to scan your stubs, but you'd have to be willing to snail them to me. I'd make sure that you got them back. If you (or anyone) would like help, email me at thatLL_play@yahoo.com.

Right on.
