Thanks Hunter, your work is invaluable.
I love this show so much, I have been petitioning David Lamieux to consider this show for the next official release WHICH HE IS! In an emall to me he said he has been listening to and pondering the show for the future.
I consider this one of your best matrices in my opinion and I am glad to see it it being added to the HT collection.

| I've always considered this show the equal and actually better of some of the May '77 shows... thank you very much! Great pick, I wasn't sure other people had taken a shine to this like I had. |

What's even more weird is that I ran into an old college friend, Garrett, the very night I seeded this while going out for Mexican with my wife - totally out of the blue! It seems the good Lord was trying to tell me something about mislabeling Grateful Dead torrents as Garetful Dead. How absolutely, positively sacrilegious of me!!!!!
1 margarita and 2 shots of tequila later (wife's birthday), I'm wondering why the heck metawhy is letting all of us know he's got a cousin named Garet, and I'm thinking, "That's a weird type of coincidence - how did metawhy know I ran into Garrett tonight!? Is this real metaphysical craziness going on here by one crazy soothsayer Deadhead, alias metawhy? He must be! HE MUST BE!"
Unfortunately, those 2 omens did not alert me to the fact that I wrote Garetful Dead for this torrent (now edited), and I realize now how out of touch I have been with reality lately, and am trying to get back on track by matrixing a good show or reading a good book. I have decided to quit hitting the Colt 45 like a banshee every darn night - in fact, I have quit drinking spirits altogether. Now all I need is the positive spiritual vibes of the good ole' Grateful Dead and a place to lay my head at night.
Interestingly, Garet Garrett (1878–1954), born Edward Peter Garrett, was an American journalist and author who was noted for his criticisms of the New Deal and U.S. involvement in the Second World War. Why rename your first name Garet if your last name is Garrett? He must have really liked the name Garet. Sounds like ferret - watch out for nihilists with ferrets on leashes! They'll smash your radio without thinking twice - and they believe in NOTHING! |

Thanks, as always, for the great work, including artwork I always look forward to seeing.
This IS/WAS a great show. I was there, and I remember quite distinctly the beautiful, quiet segue into the first "Fire" I ever heard. I remember saying to someone after the show that the segue was so delicate and natural that "it seemed like that new song always existed." A more musically astute friend in the crowd heard the first riffs as what they were: "Happiness Is Drumming" from Hart's Diga solo album. He was close enough that when he yelled an ecstatic "Digaaaaaaaaaaa!," he got a very distinct smile from Mickey.
Listening to this lovely version, which I have now in addition to the sbd, brings memories of a very fine night right back. No cosmic space between 1977 and now...PM |

I could say I just feel so sorry for the Donna-haters out there for the bliss they choose to miss out on. But then again supposedly you can lead horses to water but you can't make 'em drink. Except for this old talking horse that chooses to say instead, come on in, the water's fine. Cheers, I'll drink to that! Why sink me! For I'm already drowning in it. For I feel so happy for me. |
