Missed this show. anybody have any words about it?
fronstin 2010-01-17 21:42:46
My 4th show. The post-drums sequence is a must hear. At the end of Satisfaction Weir threw up his hands - he couldn't contain his energy and the energy in the room.

I am not very familiar with this show or the AUDs available. would this be considered an Upgrade AUD to whats been available? I am not a big fan of Senn 421s but FOB in the right spot sure could do it!

YES! My 1st show. :-)

"I am not a big fan of Senn 421s"

There are some pretty stunning GD recordings made with Senn 421s, so I'd be cautious with this sort of blanket statement or you might miss out on some amazing recordings. Personally I'd pick up a pair of these mics today in a second if they ever were available, just cause they have the potential to sizzle in the right circumstances.

I haven't heard this recording yet but my guess is the MOTB crew wouldn't bother if it wasn't good. Their sources rarely disappoint IMO.

just a month ago there was a diff source posted of this show.....

dgale-

please note, this is just my opinion. I am not saying great recordings have not been made with Senn 421s. They are just not my favorite for FOB. I will say they same thing for Nak 300s as a Sleath mic. I will take a Senn 441 or Nak 700 FOB over the 421 and 300 respectfully. not trying to put anyone down who used/uses these mics.

Thanks for this up. I use to trade with Jim Vita, Englewood, NJ.
Anybody hear from him lately?? Noticed he was the taper. He did some great JGB shows too.
simone 2010-01-18 07:54:45
thanks to Bill and MOTB!

Unfortunately Jim Vita passed away a few years back.

Thanks for that info Tarpon. Sad indeed.

J. Steinthal was good friend's with Jim, and he now has all his master tapes. He will be going through them soon. There are many great early 1980s Jerry Band tapes.
dewey72 2010-01-18 11:56:55
I'm sorry to interrupt the dialogue with a request, but can anyone be so kind as to up the miller sbd of this one (32716)? Much appreciated. My home town.
searchinbig 2010-01-18 12:09:44
Mule, great to know. I have copies of some of those JGB's of Jim's. That's how I knew that. One in particular stands out if I recall I think it was New Haven 82? My copy had low levels and I always hoped that one would pop up.
rustystrings 2010-01-19 11:54:07
ya know no matter the mics used, a little mastering goes a long way to fix the deficiency any mic may have...if its in the right sweet spot, and on a decent recorded medium, any mic can sound good.

refer to Jeff Knudsens 82 jgb tapes on a Marantz Superscope microphone to a borrowed aiwa deck.
