Here is the Macpodz home show from the Ark in Ann Arbor last night. I was pretty excited to see the boys at the Ark. It is a showcase of a venue, and beats seeing them in a smoky bar! I had discussed streaming the show with Matt, their Manager for a couple of days. I got there early so i could set up and test the internet for the stream. everything checked out ok, and it was LOUD. I actually saw Greg B. their sound engineer get pissy because they were SO LOUD! Once the doors opened, I was all set to go. After an entertaining set by Mutual Kumquat, it was time for the Podz to get in gear. A rousing welcome after Matt and Carter made the introduction. Matt also announced my stream, so the folks on the other end were acknowledged. nice job Matthew!
We were treated to one long set with 2 different encores. Plastic Peoples kicked it off. The Truth>Give Me The Heat was next. I got to hear this for the sound check. I decided to throw in the sound check on the torrent after I edited it down. I cut Greg getting pissed to spare you folks the zing. They threw a few of the newer songs our way. I was with some of these guys last week, including Jesse. I told him he HAS to play that grand piano that is sitting on the Ark stage at all times. He said he was planning on it. He killed it on that piano all night. Out of My Skin put an end to the set. Free the Weasel was encore I, and High Street was encore II. I really dig High Street. A real treat for me was having Seth Bernard join the fun for Booty Funk. He added some great improv vocals for all the members of the Macpodz, totally awesome touch. He was in the area as he was opening for Steppin' In It at the Blind Pig.
The sound was great and with Buddy bringing in some of his own lights, the ambiance was great for the show.
Great to hang with Jeff and Ruth, Tuna and Carter, Carrie, Julie, Greg, Buddy, and the rest of Y'all! I grabbed a very late lunch of Spicy Chicken with Broccoli, and Pork Fried Rice. I was feeling hungry by the end of the show, but I would not have time to eat as I had a show to get to at the Blind Pig.
