Here is last night's Yonder Mountain String Band show from Birmingham, Alabama. I was at the show in Nashville with Cousin Eddie. After that show, we went back and thanked Adam and chatted for a while. Cousin Eddie was planning on this show and had his plus 1. Adam asked if I was going as his plus 1 and I told him it was taken. He said no problem and added me. I was now hooked into 1 more show, could not say no. I left Hardy's and headed south on I-65. Most of the ride, the scenery was beautiful, as all the trees were like crystal trees from the snow and ice from the storm. It was not until about 60 miles from Birmingham that there was not any snow or ice on the ground. I met David and Ira in Little Five Points and we ended up at Cosmo's Pizza as it was the quickest option and we had only about 25 minutes. We left and headed the 8 minutes to the WorkPlay. I was here in October and really dug this facility. I was in the theatre part of the building. Tonight, we were in the larger side that holds about 800. Tonight's crowd was very solid for a Sunday night, about 650-700 in my estimation.
We set up just inside the security barrier in front of the board. Ben was happy to see us another night. We had the computer and were up to the task of streaming, only problem, 2 sites and they were security encoded. I asked Emily, the General Manager and she said their set was experiencing problems and did not know the passwords to the other addresses. No stream tonight. The boys took the stage as the crowd kept filing in. We had some chatter due to our location, and many of the Bama folks came to socialize instead of intently listening to what was going on in front of them. Being Sunday, they opened with some gospel, Jesus on the Mainline, and a long version at that. I had a funny feeling early on that this would surpass the Nashville show. A nice mix of tunes such as Winds of Wyoming, Danny Barnes' Crow Black Chicken, and a nice New Horizons sammy.
After about a 30 minute break, it was back to business. Pockets was a nice choice. They payed tribute to Bennie Galloway a couple of times tonight. Things got interesting from Ramblin' on. After the Drew Emmitt penned Get Me Out of this City, Jeff said the next segment goes out to the folks that have been on board the past few days. What a way to hook up the fans than to play Ky Mando>Snow>Morning Dew>Snow>Good- Hearted Woman, WOW! I was talking to Ben before the show by the bus out back when I arrived. I asked if they made up the setlist and he said Jeff was working on it. I mentioned a Snow on the Pines right then and there and he said that is a good possibility. Chaching! For the encore, they decided to go unplugged! It was very unfortunate as even after mentioning this, the locals just could not keep from hollering and making tons of noise. It sounds ok, as I amped it up a bit. Two very good songs too.
Great hangin' with Cousin Eddie (David), Ira, Dennis, Spencer and Laura, Liz, and the rest of the FOB crew.
Dinner consisted of a couple of Slices of Pizza from Cosmos. Not much I know, but I did hit China 1 on the way out of Nashville for some Hot Sour Soup, Spicy Chicken and Broccoli, and Fried Rice. So, I was not actually starving.
Late night dinner consisted of the rest of the King Cake Spencer bought in Mobile, and some Killer Granola Laura bought from a local store.

| I have to agree with zman. The crowd was intolerable. Bama crowds are the worst I have ever experienced anywhere. So much chatter and lack of respect for the band really hurt this show. It reminds me of those selfish twats at Ben Harper a couple years ago bellowing during his a capella performance. The last two songs reminded me of the Del Mccoury show he did here a few years back. Too bad they couldnt be heard. douch bags. |
