A most enjoyable show worth the 5 hours of driving last night. Watching Phil extend his arms and act like an airplane in Cosmic Charley was priceless - he definetely appeared to have missed his calling in a barbershop quartet. Phil also was grinning throughout the show, making eye contact with John repeatedly in each song. Hard to tell how Bob was doing behind the big ole burly mustache and beard but his licks were on the mark (after Sunshine) and his vocals were excellent, especially in Caution. The sound (5th row right side) was crystal clear and John sounded uncannily like Senor Garcia.

Z-man your pulls are the best! But I must say when it comes to disc breaks, "Seamless" should be the standard, with the only fades being at the beginning & at the end of the sets, ideally not even at the encore break. We won't be burning 80 minute discs for long, and I want to enjoy your shows in the future without interuption.

Zman, There was no judgment of your work intended in my comments, simply factual info. I prefer to arrange my CD's in such a way as to preserve as much of the continuity of the performance as possible. I know many others are of the same mind. After all, people generally arrange music on media so the breaks occur between songs whenever possible, right? Thus, my comment was offered for those who would choose to arrange their versions of your fine recording without the unnecessary cut you elected to insert between Come Together and Caution. The fact that no music was lost around your original CD break is irrelevant; there would still be a cut at the CD break that would effect the enjoyment of the listener. Not the end of the world but not a decision many would consciously make if they knew there was a choice that didn't necessitate a cut in the music.
Regarding your query...putting the break before Doin' That Rag accomplishes two goals:
1. it puts more of the show on one disc (disc 3). I find this preferable whenever possible, but only if it can be accomplished without introducing additional cuts during the music.
2. On the other hand, this decision makes the fragment of the start of II smaller so it is easier to fit as filler on another CD.
In conclusion, many thanks for all your work on recording, editing and seeding so quickly for the enjoyment of the community. It is really appreciated. That being said, I would counsel a little more detachment on your part. The band always said, "when we're done with the music the audience can do what they want with it." You on the other hand appear to be really caught up in how people respond to your work. I guess it's only natural to feel that way, but if someone suggests packaging your recording on CD slightly differently you should be able to take that in stride and not get all huffy about it.

| I wanted to wait until I listened to this upload before I commented. All I want to say is that this sounds excellent and its hard to imagine any other audience sources could sound any better! Thank you! I can't think of any words that can properly express my appreaciation. I also downloaded your source of the asheville show, its so nice to be able to get such high quality copies of shows I attended so quickly after the shows. Thanks again. |
