cicada notes: This lineup features Sophia Ramos on vocals. David Freiberg plays with QMS and Starship! There is little something for everyone here! Dave Lerner is the taper. Popskull flac'd & shared this (originally elsewhere)... thanks a lot, man. It is nice recording; it sounds better than the soundboard! |

It's hard to think of Quicksilver as Quicksilver without John Cippolina. How were they?

I can't say enough about this show. It was such a blast to be back in NYC after so many years. Quicksilver does a cool version of Fleetwood Mac's "Hypnotize". The musicians were all mellow, but the playing was excellent. I had limited expectations going into this show, but I was pleasantly surprised at everyone's performance. The gold star goes to Sophia... a big voice (without the gag reflex I usually get - lol). And, the blue star goes to David Freiberg - but he always gets a blue star in my book. Once again I thank everyone involved for getting this recording in circulation (this means you Dave, Rick & popskull!).

sdc - You know you cannot replace JC. He was big stuff. That does not take anything away from from Gary Duncan or David Freiberg (both in Quicksilver currently). The music is hard-hitting and it deserves a good listen. Don't expect to hear the QMS from 1967 - these guys aren't 20 years old anymore. To answer your question, they are wonderful, cohesive and defined. These guys sound great together. I suggest the QMS set even if you don't grab the rest of the show.

Fair enough, cicada4. I'm glad to hear the Duncan is playing with them. And let's be reasonable, by 1969 or 1970 Quicksilver no longer sounded quite like Quicksilver. It's kind of like yearning for the Grateful Dead to sound like 67-69 for their whole careers.
