Here is tonight's John Mayer show from Atlanta. I thought about hitting this show and saw it was sold out. I really dig Michael Franti and Spearhead, the opener. I was going to hit the Dotline Projekt and at 7:04, I grabbed my gear and decided to try my luck at the Philips. I saw many tickets on Craig's List for less than face. Hauled butt downtown, parked, and went up top in front to look for a ticket. I had an upper for $20 and said no thanks. A mother with her 2 daughters had an extra. I offered $20 and they said no. in 3 minutes, they came back and took the $20! It was now 8:05 and I got through the line. I was stopped at the door and they said no equipment. i said BS, the bands are both taper friendly and David's budy who works there, told him they were aware of it being taper friendly. I pushed the issue with a supervisor and won. The seat was actually quite good, 2nd row off the floor in the back. Normal taper's tickets for Panic shows. I set up very quick and was rolling by 8:13, I missed the first 2 short songs.
After the set, I went down to the cage at 9:28 and asked Chad, the sound engineer for Mayer if I could set up in the back of the cage as I was on the aisle where everyone was talking. He said no problem and the security guard heard him. I grabbed my gear and as i went in the cage, the lights went off and the band came on! I had all the room in the world, and not a soul near the mics! John played almost 2 hours with the encore. A solid performance. He did most of his hits. I rather enjoyed the covers of Ain't No Sunshine, The Just like a Woman intro to Half of My Heart, and the Don't Stop Believing. Franti joined in as well.
When he introduced the band, I heard a familiar name, Robbie McIntosh. I remember when he played in Paul McCartney's band! In 1994 during Jazzfest, I was working in New Orleans. It was the week between the weekends and I went to Jimmy's to see the Radiators. At about 3 am, I am up front waiting for set II. The band enters onto the stage. There is Warren Haynes! Well, McCartney played the dome that night and up on stage joins Robbie McIntosh and Wes from Paul's band. Derek Smalls joined in the set as well. What a night of music!
For late dinner tonight, I ate some leftovers from dinner, Grilled Chicken Wings, Corn, and Wild Rice! Happy Birthday Shorty!

Dunno if you remember me, but I'm the one who spoke to you briefly between Franti closing and Mayer opening after seeing your mics a few rows up from the back of the floor.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful tape and cool story/exchange with Chad. It's always an amazing time when Mayer comes back to Atlanta, and I'm happy you're sharing that experience all over again with us.
