| Hey folks - got a source correction for this show. Jon used his Neumann KM150's for this show, not his Gefell 210's. I've corrected it above, but it will be wrong in the text file you download. Sorry about that! |

Hi, Is this from the taper who was set up early, DFC behind the soundboard? Went over and said a 'hello', asked what mics he was using and thanked him for grabbing the show.
I ask because 2-other tapers joined his spot, closer to show time, but I'm eager to hear that 1st tapers versions. |

Anyone else notice the soundguy consistently has Tweedy's guitar too loud in the mix and Nels Cline's way too low? I saw the show in Scanton on 3/31 and Cline was virtually inaudible the entire night. It got so bad I went to talk to the soundman - didn't help (although he did ask me if I played guitar - huh?). On 4/2 it was better, but still way off. I was listening to the recording from 3/23 posted here and same thing - Tweedy's guitar too hot, Cline's hard to hear.
Is it just the three shows I've seen/heard or is this a persistent problem? |

The taper DFC behind the soundboard must have been the one from NYCity taper. The recording's available at http://www.nyctaper.com/?p=2821

""It got so bad I went to talk to the soundman - didn't help (although he did ask me if I played guitar - huh?).""
I'm with you, scratching my head at the sound issues. Band like Wilco should be on the edge of sounding pretty great, given all their available gear and technology, no matter what the venue.
Concert - Rock venues and halls have been in place for decades. Sound technicians should've cut their teeth in a variety of places, getting to know how to get a decent sweet spot, with the soundboard somewhere within that radius. The tapers at this show were literally inches over this soundman's head. |

| As the guy who taped this, I couldn't agree more. The sound was horrible in this venue. And the soundman did nothing to improve it. Compare this to my DSO from same venue 12/30/08, where Dan Healy took the lousy acoustics of this venue and helped produce a great sounding show and tape. |

Your recording is very nice Jonny P, so to is Acid Jacks. You guys could team up and make a nice matrix. He has very nice lows & your highs are better than his. Just a note, I totally agree on the sound. I was pretty disappointed at the loudness with out any true clarity to it. Until, the second night. I sat in the balcony night two and that is clearly where Stan mixed the sound for. It sounded ten times better in the balcony. Plus there were a several dozen record execs in the front section of the balcony. Even Mark Oliver Everett was there. Eels!!
Any chance you captured the second night, I cant seem to find a recording. |

Over all nice recording, and great show. Broken Arrow??? Wow, I guess I don't get to hear these shows often enough, but what a nice cover. Otherwise a nice show, and the talking below the music is minimal. A great listen.
Nels guitar was low in Philly as well, but not as low. The Electric Factory show was fantastic (the only one I caught from this tour) and I can't wait to hear tapes from that night.
Thank you one and all that make these available! |
