Here is last night's Widespread Panic show from Red Rocks. We arrived at the Ampitheatre at about 2:30, as we had a couple of stops along the way. Horace was able to snap a VIP pass and we parked right by the band's buses. Rob gave us all a ride to the back of the stage area. I had to meet Marcus, as he had my ducat. Thanks Brother Marcus! I asked the security person by the back stage area how to get to the Upper North entrance. She pointed me up the steps of the ampitheatre. I was actually inside! I hung out with Horace and Hardy as we watched the boys soundcheck for about an hour. I stuck my mic stand in the section and headed to meet Marcus. A couple of the Red Rocks workers warned me of a rattle snake in the path along the way. They brought a long stick and got him off the path. I grabbed my 3 day pass and headed inside. When doors opened, I was there and ready to rock and roll. At this point, all we had to was wait around for 2 1/2 hours. It was nice to see a very strong show of tapers! I would say there were at least 20 there. Been a while since I have seen that kind of turnout for Panic. Just prior toi the start of the show, Buck Williams came up into the section and started asking tapers if they were broadcasting. Uh oh. I told Bennett to come over to his gear and we spoke with Buck. He said audio taping is fine but NO streaming will be allowed. We accomodated his wishes. The end of WSP streaming has hit us, bummer!
The boys hit the stage just about 7:23. Now for the killer opener, Airplane>Take Off Jam>Vacation>Pigeons! Cotton was King is one of my favorites on the new cd, and this version was great. This was a repeat from yesterday's in-store appearance. Things began to accelerate as we watched Karl D enter the mix for a killer TYS>Red Hot Mama>TYS sammy! Porch closed out the long first set. Nice buzz going through the crowd.
The second set opened with Shorty's favorite, Conrad. She got her call from me. Good People with the Dark Bar rap was next. Seems like they are playing the DBR more than they aren't for Good People. Flicker was next. During the ride back to town, Horace and Hardy could not stop talking about the Jam and Flicker Jam that developed out of this one! My second Shut Up And Drive was well received. Next we watched CPW rock the freakin' mountain! Fishwater, Blue Indian>Holden closed the set. I looked up at the stage after Holden and realized the set was over. We forgot about the time. LGTSOTR>Ain't Life Grand sent us on our way. I definitely liked the first set better than set II.
Great to hang with Bennett and Jacque, Rob O, Marcus, CB, Kinder, Harrison, Nutter, Ted R., Thomas, Steve, Rob, Shannon, Eric, Tracy, Hardy and Horace, Tim, Sam, Frankie, Tommy, Dubba and Erin, Kingston, John, George, and the rest of the crew.
Dinner in the section was a Spicy Chicken and Broccoli with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll that I picked up on Colfax St. in Denver. I also had some Quinoa Salad with Black Beans, Tri-colored fresh Nacho Chips and Guacamole, and a couple of Nectarines that Marcus picked up for me at Whole Foods. I did not go hungry, that's for sure!
Great hangin' with John, Andy, Chris, Milt, Jim, and the rest of the bunch!
