An Abstract Theory is one of my favorite local bands and they did not disappoint this evening. While the crowd was sparse (not unusually around here), the band put on a great show, playing their first two albums in order, in their entirety, even though the second album has not been released.

For the third set, they went through a nice set of cover tunes. Zappa's "Muffin
Man" made it worth the trip, as did a "short" version of Led Zep's "Dazed and
Confused," Pink Floyd's "Breathe" and a killer Hendrix style "Star Spangled
Banner" to close the show. It was nice to hear Dave Futtrell stand in on guitar
for Black Sabbath's "War Pigs."

It was nice to get out and tape a local show, which has not happened much since the Old Town Tavern closed. This was my first taping experience at the new JD's bar in Sheffield. I taped in the old building once, but was not terribly impressed. The new building sounds great, at least it did for this band. JD's could fill the void if they continue to showcase ORIGINAL local bands.

enjoy!

Some of my best memories from college involve listening to local bands play at practically empty bars.

I have never been disappointed with a Team Dirty South recording and am looking forward to listeningf to this one once the download is complete. Thanks and keep up the good work!
