The JPJ shows were both over the top. The Boyz stepped up for the home crowd, and the guest contributions took those songs to the next level. Great Stuff!
Clearly they didn't want the final night to end. After Granny, the lights stayed off and they came back to the stage, started #40 then surged into a wonderful Last Stop. What a way to end a tour!
But the lights still did not go on. Carter tossed a bunch of drumsticks to the crowd and waved goodbye. Many folks left figuring it must be over. They came out again and began the ASTB jam (with 2001 jam) right into Too Much. What a perfect way to end the tour!
But it was just a tease and they blew the roof off with Ants Marching. Amazing.
Check out Jimi Thing from the previous night. I think it's one of the best performances ever. At the horns jam, Jeff did a solo, then John D. Earth picked right up with a great trumpet solo, then Trombone Shorty blasted away with a very cool trombone solo and finally Rashawn raised the bar with yet another fantastic trumpet solo. Then...they did it again. Then...they did the rotation jam one more time! Finally, all fours brass players jammed together with the band and reached an incredible peak. I've never heard anything like it. They ended with the "For What It's Worth" coda, instead of the recent "Sexy MF" coda. Maybe someday it will be a release. An outstanding run. |

Then...they did it again.
and that's the problem with DMB and jam bands in general...the just keep doing it again with no progression or divergence from the original theme or key...DMB lost their heat, imho, around 94...sorry, let the flaming begin, but i think their original intent has long since been lost...thanks again. |
