This was my first time seeing Furthur and I was, of course, blown away. This show was absolutely fantastic! I already started to get the Dead vibe from all the people that were there and it just felt like I was at a (smaller scale) Dead show. They did one long set (almost 2.5 hours) but it went by way too quickly. The weather was brutally hot & humid and was apparently breaking records from as far back as the 1920's.
Well, this was an interesting day to say the least. Several hours before the show, I called up the administration offices and explained to them that I'm a taper and what do I need to do to get past security with my gear. In reality, the only thing I was concerned about was my stand (they aren't allowing tripods and certainly not 13 foot stands) as everything else always gets in using my tried & true Jedi mind control techniques. Well, the lady went to check with her boss and came back saying that taping was not going to be permitted under any circumstances...it was a venue thing and the fact that the band permitted it didn't matter. I was disappointed but decided not to bring my stand as security is quite tight and they've said that anything not permitted will be confiscated.
So I arrive at the venue early enough to explore the grounds a bit. I caught a few minutes of The Gypsy Kings and then with about an hour left, decided to make my way to the sweet spot to record. To my utter surprise, there were several tapers there with their stands set up and ready to go! When I asked them how they got them in, they told me that they just brought them in with no problems or issues from security. I was really disappointed as I had all my (stealth) gear and would obviously prefer to fly from a stand than my hat. The show was due to start in 1 hour and there was no way I could make it to my hotel and back by bus in that time. One of the tapers offered me a patch through his Neumans but I knew what I had to do. I literally ran in the blistering heat for 10 minutes until I got to the nearest taxi, told him to step on it and went back to my hotel. I then ran upstairs and grabbed my gear while he waited for me downstairs. I got back to the venue with about 15 minutes before the show was scheduled to begin and I set up fast and furiously. I made it with just a couple of minutes to spare but of course the show didn't start for another 40 minutes. I didn't care and was just happy to be recording off my stand.
The people sitting next to us were quite the chatterers so after Bertha, I raised my stand from 11' to 13'. In the end, it appears that I didn't need to but it made me feel better and I was able to do it silently without affecting the sound. During Hell In A Bucket someone accidentally lightly kicked one of the legs of my stand. You can hear it if you really listen for it.
Joe was wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt which was the band that had opened up the festival the night before.
Huge thanks to BradM for his generosity with his duct tape. I had forgotten to grab mine in the rush.

Of course, many thanks go out to Leif for his mastering on this show. As usual, I'll keep this on the seedbox for a couple of days so you should get great speeds! Please comment once you've given it a listen.
Enjoy and many thanks,
Seth
