I was there! Show was a blast. I was going to school in Albany at the time, and a buddy of mine heard from a friend of his who worked in the ticket office at the Flynn that "if you like Phish, you should be in Burlington on Easter Sunday."
A quick look at the local venue websites, and saw Grippo Funk Band listed for (the old) Higher Ground. Knew this was it, so bought a pair of tix online, and drove up. Well worth it. Got there early, saw Trey leaving soundcheck and running around in the parking lot with one of his daughters, knew I was in the right place.
For those who haven't been, the old Higher Ground was tiny. I was right up against the stage all night. Un-real to even hear one Phish song in a club. Trey was playing the blue languedoc all night if I remember correctly.
Trey and the guys all sounded great and everyone was having a ton of fun. Which makes it all the more damning that the infamous Vegas April 04 run was only a week or two after this, and aside from Coventry is arguably the worst sounding Phish of 2.0. Cocaine is one hell of a drug I guess. Breakup announced a month and change later. |
