thanks!
poizon45 2011-02-15 12:45:18
is this a 16 bit or 24?
shnfamily 2011-02-15 13:27:07
it clearly states in the info file the sample rate
bvaz 2011-02-15 14:09:37
The answer is in the book.
Also, 24 bit shn is not possible.
As much as 24bit flakes of these shows would be great, don't let that deter you. The cOmbunation of the Redmond tapes and the mastering work makes these a must have. You won't be disappointed.
bvaz 2011-02-15 14:10:46
Sorry. Some auto correct messed up my post but you get the point.
cmc64 2011-02-15 15:42:58
I am quite sure that the mastering that went into this makes this a must have, I am going to download it. I have been on a Phish hiatus recently - after the first night of Merriweather in which quite a few tapers were completely uncooperative in helping me get to into the pavilion (and I am no newbie, seeing Phish since 1991, taping since 1995) - I just couldn't get a taper ticket so I was relegated to the lawn. Now, you can pull fantastic recordings at MPP form the right spot on the lawn and my 1st set recording sounds excellent. However, the average age of the concert-goer on the lawn was 18 and most had never seen Phish before - I have been to countless concerts and this was by far the worst behavior by a crowd that I have ever witnessed. spent the show trying very hard not to get into fights ad the drunken/drugged children in attendance had qutie an enjoyable time pushing and shoving me and throwing shit at me the entire time, resulting in a rather damaged Schoeps CMC6/MK4. It cost a pretty penny to have it repaired. I still don't have it back because it took me so long to save up the repair money. I am a poor guy right now. So I left during the second set and did not return for the next night.

Seeing a show for you first time is a great thing. Going, having no conception of the music at all and believing that the show is an excuse to get as drunk and drugged as possible and act like a maniac with not repercussions is quite another. So I haven't been back since.

Anyway, I was poking around for the first time in about nine months I remember going to Colonial Keene Theater shows when I went to school in VT (Green Mt. College back in 1991) and I did not see this show but it seemed like a good one to see if I am ready to go back to Phish. Believe m, that night at MPP was very traumatic, left me with a PTSD type thing going on. I can barely go to shows anymore at all. I just can't understand these kids now. I never behaved in such a manner even in my wildest psychedelic induced states. I just don;t get this culture anymore. That is why I hide out in the section, but I go my gear in and must have asked at least ten tapers to stub me down to the section and they all flat out refused. Really lost a lot of faith that night. I don't even know if I want it back.

Well, sorry for the long ass rant, as a semi-amateur audio engineer I would love to get my hands on the 24bit files if possible. Please let me know if this can be done.

Thanks guys, for listening. It really helped to get that off my chest. Quite therapeutic. Thank you once again.

I love this show. I have a low gen cassette of this source (I think) and it sounds great. Try it if you haven't heard it!!
passenger4 2011-02-15 21:48:32
Oh, and thanks for putting this up!
shnfamily 2011-02-15 22:23:24
cmc4 just know it was hard for most tapers to get taper tickets for merriweather.. and welcome back
bvaz 2011-02-15 22:36:34
to add to shnfamily.
that rant was awesome. I will get to that level one day.
tapers tickets are hard to come by but it really sucks no one helped you out. it is usually a great community.

as for 24 bit masters. I heard a rumbling a while back about reviving these in 24 bit but it died. I'd love to try and get that revived again. this old school project was great work.
shooper 2011-02-16 00:37:52
@CMC64 - Sorry to hear about your negative experience last summer. I totally feel you on the vibe with a lot of the younger kids on the scene these days. I've only been able to make it to one show since the last hiatus (Merriweather '09), and I too got a strong feeling that a disproportionate number of the kids at the show were there for "the scene", to get wasted and act stupid rather than be there for the music. It was sad to see that a lot of the respect for the scene had vanished since the 1.0 days.

I see evidence of this online too, in places like phantasytour forums where people are so quick to blurt out "f-you" to a previous commenter, rather than actually engage in an intelligent discussion. Maybe I'm just getting old?
elevenfourteen73 2011-02-16 03:35:14
great show....awesome venue....man, was it cold that night!!

The video on youtube that says it is 2/15/91 is not, by the way
LAStubbe 2011-02-16 08:53:44
I agree and understand CMC64.

Sorry to hear about tapers not getting you down.

You may check out taperssection.com and ahead of time line up help. Generally I feel the Phish taping community is still reasonably tight nit. Not like the mid 90's, but there's still a group of regulars that go to shows that will help one another out. Most seem to be on the taperssection website.

I have no issues with seeing shows with the crowds today, and I've been going since 93.

The music is most important to me, and the good outweighs the bad. You should not give up.
poizon45 2011-02-16 11:51:02
i wouldn't say it's clear. At the top it says 24, at the bottom it says 24 > 16.

So there's no need to be snobby about it, is this a 24 or a 16.
bvaz 2011-02-16 13:48:47
There is no such thing as a 24 bit shn file. Therefore it is clearly a 16 bit fileset. Not a snobby answer, just definitive.
poizon45 2011-02-16 16:55:43
thanks.
