JEFF - YOU - ROCK!!!

Thank you so much for your efforts -- looking forward to hearing this!! Can't wait for Friday and Saturday (hopefully my taping will be glitch free!). (By the way, I still have an uncirculated recording of the Nov. 13, Milvale PA show. It only needs a minor edit where I switched from the internal to external mics; and possible a R channel boost throughout the external mic portion, as I was LOC, hence the lower level from the R side of the room.)

Thanks Jeff!

thank you!

bummed MMW is not bringing their anniversary tour near me, so I'll be very grateful to all you tapers who are kind enough to share the music

Amen, duggy, amen!

Been waiting for these new shows to surface. Really excited to hear this, and hope the Request+Improv tour eventually makes it back my way!

Gonna be great to hear some rare tunes surface. Bubble & Chubb are just a given for the most part when it comes to requests, I suppose!

Duggy, in the tradition of show notes, I look forward to hearing which of this tour's improv sets most grabs your ears...

Huge thanks to our taper!

Can anyone point me in the direction of a studio version of Ice? Or better yet, tell me the history behind that tune because I cant seem to find it anywhere?! This sounds amazing.

Cheers

"Well, they play Bubblehouse at all 4 of these shows -- and they mess with it each time! 3/4 opens with it! I think you'll dig it ..."

hell yeah! what a show... i thought the crowd was electric. can't wait to hear that and the rest of the run

Ice is on the album End Of The World Party (Just In Case) -- check it out! This is the only live performance of the tune ever ... very glad somebody requested it -- Ice and Midnight Poppies/Crooked Birds are my favourite tracks on that album ... hoping somebody requested the latter along the way as well.

And I'll just say that if anyone hears anything they recognize in the all that improvisation, please speak up! I did my best, but I don't know ALL music! HA!

3/4's 2nd set Improv builds to explode into Night Marchers to close the set, and 3/3 sounds like it builds to a tune too -- I just can't place it! But, it might just be a blues jam too ... not sure.

And, there are certainly many moments, just like past Improv sets, where I'm finding some of these construction,s and even the types of melodies used within certain frameworks, to be very similar to actual MMW songs at times ... makes sense ... but I think I might be hearing more of that form rather than the particular song I think I might be hearing ...

Thanks. Been itching to hear these shows over here on the east coast...

F U C K I N G S H I N E IT!!!!!!!!

Easily my favorite tune off EOTWP(jic)
and holy sheep shit was it nailed! So glad someone requested it.

Sick sick sick.
Oh and nasty too. Great pull as always holmmes.
newplanet7 2011-03-08 22:32:28
Shine it and Sasa that is. Along with newplanet, reflector, bloody oil, ice, midnight, queen bee and Anonymous Skulls. HA!!!!!!!!!!!
InsectEffect 2011-03-09 00:11:34

newplanet7 I am with you -- End of the World Party is a great album. I know some have complained that it sounds a little overproduced, but the tunes are all stellar...

duggy 2011-03-09 11:37:51
I love the EOTWPjic album! I ended up getting an early version of that album and listened to it the entire summer of '04 -- it never left our car! -- before it was released that fall. I have no problem with the production vibe at all, as I always thought it was a perfect marrying of The Dropper vibe coupled with Uninvisible production ... I love EOTWPjic! (Oh, I already said that! But I do!)

I remember there being complaints about the song writing for the tunes on that album as well, which always made me thing WTF are you talking about! Those are some stellar, STELLAR compositions!
duggy 2011-03-09 13:51:28
I think I need some setlist help for the end of 3/3's 2nd set, which looks like this:

07. [02:06] - Bass'n'Drums >
08. [01:36] - Unknown #1 >
09. [01:50] - Third Stone From The Sun Improv >
10. [05:06] - Unknown #2

... Unknown #1 might just be a jam that sounds familiar, but Tom (twilight) and I are both thinking that Unknown #2 is indeed a tune -- or an improv of a tune ...

Can anybody identify either of those tracks? Here are some download links for MP3s of the tracks in question:

Unknown #1

Unknown #2

Thanks!

I think both of those tracks are just improv.
#1 doesn't sound familiar. Medeski's riff does sound sort of planned or written, maybe it's something he/they have been working on. or it could just be that they are THAT good when they improvise.
#2 reminds me of the form and energy of a rocking Cloud Wars, but I think it's just improv.
frankrt 2011-03-09 23:27:32
Great sound on this, Jeff. The improv set is just nasty! I agree with Randy on the improvs; although, it sounds like Chris might be riffing off the Felic bass line for a while.
