The penultimate Donna spasms during "Deal". Causing a non deadhead girlfriend to exclaim "Jesuuuuusss" rather loudly the further the coda went. One of those take to our grave moments. Great show, nontheless.

Anybody here from Long Island/New York City area who remembers a Long Island head shop called PRIME CUTS?

Well they used to sell tapes of GD shows, and I admit I used to go there quite often back in the day! Although their selection was quite impressive (lots of great shows), they high speed dubbed their tapes, and not always used the best sources. They sold a tape of 7/8/78 with a nasty tape flip during "Eyes of the World," thus destroying a great jam. It always made me cry in disgust!

Well fast forward ten or fifteen years into the age of digital technology, with Miller & Germain on board, things can't get much better! Great sounding shows with maximum remaster effort, a dream come true.

Thanks!!

This was a stellar show, I would love to see Red Rocks again! Thanks.
slato 2011-03-13 14:23:59
Isn't this the Wharf Rat where Jerry tells Donna to "shush"?
slato 2011-03-13 14:25:14
oops--- forgot to give a mighty thanks to CM and all who work to put this music out there. Always appreciated.
dewey72 2011-03-13 18:23:58
slato, I believe it's Phil telling the crowd to shush because it's that beautiful vocal harmonizing part with very little instrumentation, "But I'll get back on my feet someday, the Good Lord willing...." I've always gotten a kick outta that shush from Phil. Always believed it was Phil because, well, who else but Phil? And also, Jerry was singing though not at the moment.
P.s. this is my all-time favorite dead show. Jerry's intense ululations punch and jab all show long. Listen to the Ship of Fools, Must've Been the Roses, Ramble On Rose. Versions like none other. Exude passion. Screaming guitar. Love it. I listened to this show over and over again on cassette in high school. Thank you!
dewey72 2011-03-13 18:25:48
... and the harmonies are just so damn beautiful and exquisite that really the crowd shoulda been hushed as in church or something.
bzlrbi 2011-03-13 21:35:56
This whole show is just SO amazing. The Estimated > Other One > Eyes segment is unbelievably awesome.
92gli 2011-03-15 08:48:17
This show is a perfect storm. The tightness of spring 77 meets jerry's angry guitar sound of late 77-spring 78 meets LSD. :o) Its so great throughout but IMO it really started kickin in for the franklins>sugar mags. Like a freight train brothers. Ride it or get out of the way. I always imagined that jerry tore into that franklins cause he realized during the wharf rat that the crowd just wanted the heat - so he was on a mission to bring it. Definately one of those music plays the band moments.
peacefulman 2011-03-21 23:01:57
@SLATO

I recall having a VHS many years ago with the infamous "Shhhhhh!!!" during Wharf Rat. My brother in Missoula still owns it, but my point is this.

Until your comment, I always thought he was hailing to the crowd to "Shhhh!!!" because he was about to go in to the deep spiritual portion of the lyric, and folks up front or near the SBD I should say were whistling and whoopin it up.

Seeing your point of view all these years later...now, my friend...THAT'S FUNNY if indeed he was a shushing on a Donna Jean!!! LoL

Peace All from Wonderful Wisco (Home of Alpine Valley!!!)~

I just listened to this for the first time, so, first of all, thanks for the upload and to those who continue to seed it. I want to second the comment regarding the Franklin's Tower into Sugar Magnolia, though I think it really starts to kick in with "Wharf Rat" itself propelled by Billy's exquisite work in the Drums segment. The show as a whole is very strong with some extraordinary fills and riffs from Jerry throughout. As for the "shush" it has to be to the crowd, which is extremely loud (enough to be distracting on the SBD and thus clearly audible and distracting onstage). Personally, I think Donna is part of the energy of the show, particularly post-Drums. I also think utterly implausible that the band would be shush-ing her. The fact of the matter is that she was onstage because they wanted her there and she can a great deal.

Thanks !!!!
StimpyTrix 2011-11-21 16:54:43
Sorry..but can someone suggest why this particular torrent isn't moving for me? I'm the one leech here, and have no connections....

TMeanwhile, three other shows downloaded successfully (and now I'm seeding those).

Thanks for any suggestions...and thanks to Mr. Charlie (Miller) for the source of all this!

One of the greatest shows of the era not to ever see an official release. As always, much love and gratitude for all of you involved everywhere you are. Thanks!
