Celebrate the King of Pop with Diverse, Reach, the Good Foot and Hearts of Darkness

It was only a matter of time, in lieu of the recent successes of tribute shows in Kansas City, until someone paid homage to Michael Jackson. And perhaps the best mix of musicians for the job has now come together, and will bring the King of Pop to the RecordBar stage next week, complete with featured dancers, a horn section and an MC.
The tribute show's lineup includes experimental world-jazz band Diverse (Hermon Mehari, Ben Leifer and Ryan Lee), plus Bobby Watson on sax, Reach on the emcee mic, Brad Williams from Hearts of Darkness filling out percussion, Julia Haile from the Good Foot on vocals, Tim Braun (also from the Good Foot) on guitar, Peter Schlamb from St. Louis on the vibraphone, and Kansas City social legend Al Burns tearing up the dance floor. And that's just a taste of the talent involved in the project. The group plans to focus mostly on MJ's bigger hits, selecting most of their songs from Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad. Though the core of the project is in Diverse's hands, all of the musicians involved will rotate through songs, bringing a unique and special twist to the MJ catalog.

We will be playing the music of Michael Jackson this Friday (April 15) at the Record Bar in Kansas City. Doors open at 9 PM and the show starts at 10 PM. The show includes vocalists Julia Haile, Lee Langston, Anthony Saunders, and Nave. Instrumentalists Bobby Watson, Tim Braun, Eddie Moore, Peter Schlamb, and Brad Williams will join Ben, Ryan and I. We will also feature emcee Reach and two dancers: Reggie Simmons and Al Burnes. |
