Mastered: Soundforge Pro 10.0c - *All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits*. Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. 24 bit file then processed with SOX 14.3.2 (as recommended, keeping the file at 24 bits during the processing) to remove pre-emphasis which was applied by the Teac A>D converter. Then back to Soundforge for volume normalization and dithering to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.

BARN91 comes to you courtesy of the work I was doing on the Jambands.com weekend from Wetlands 6/4-5/99. Apparently on the very next night (wow, that was a busy week!) I headed down to the South Street Seaport to see Bela Fleck and the Flecktones play the Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival with Olu Dara opening at the "Atrium" (really the Food Court) of the South Street Seaport. And I decided to record this set (figuring he'd only have an hour to play as an opener) on the same DAT as the Lake Trout Wetlands set from 6/5 and this set got to come along for free. So -- thanks to Lake Trout for letting me relive and thoroughly enjoy this set!
I was well-familiar with Olu Dara because my favorite radio station, WFUV had his song "Your Lips" in very heavy rotation. Apparently Olu had been a well-respected jazz musician for most of his career, but with the release of his first CD, he took a left turn with a set of blues and carribbean-influenced tunes. This guy has a great vibe in his performances (and on both of his solo albums) and when you put this on, you will find your mood altered and you'll float along to his great grooves. This is some really great music!
As a side note, Olu is the rapper Nas' dad. The story goes that Nas was the encouraging force behind Olu recording his solo albums, though he hasn't released anything in more than 10 years. I wonder what he's up to these days?
