* = acoustic songs w/David Hildago on accordion
+ = w/"That One Guy" on really strange pipe/stringed/percussion combo instrument that he played 3 ways: Plucking the strings, playing it with a bow, and playing percussion on it (there was also a snare drum attached to it that I don't think he ever played)
^ = w/? on trumpet (never identified)

Notes: There was a loud, frequent "over the head" clapper RIGHT near my mics. It took me hours and hours of extra effort to scrub most of his loud claps from this recording (though some of his quieter claps still may remain). I hope you all appreciate!

I got some killer photos at this show as well....when I get to posting them I will put a link here

There was only one song I couldn't get the title to....it was definitely off-the-cuff (i.e. not on the setlist) and despite the pretty deep Lobos knowledge I have, they still managed stump me. Dan Gale, I'm looking at you for help on this one. :-)

thank you for this...i'll see if i can beat Dan-o to the track answer! ;~}
maxcarbob 2011-07-20 09:19:21
Rattlesnake Shake? Cool!
mmwarchives 2011-07-20 09:31:03
Thanks Scott!! And thank you sooo much for all the extra effort involved in scrubbing the loud claps from this recording.
You know I know what kind of effort that takes.

Cheers!!

Thanks Scott for recording and for all your work editing on this one. The mystery track is "Walking With Frankie Lee" - they've played it off and on over the years, usually as a jam segue song like this...always a good one.

Even though Ric didn't beat me to the punch in ID'ing the song, he gets credit for the correct title of the tune - I always mistakenly referred to it as "Mighty Old Love" on a lot of the earlier setlists until he educated me better...now I just need to find the time to go back and fix the title on all those early setlists.
rovalle 2011-07-20 10:05:12
as recorded by Frankie Lee Sims may I add! Hiya Dan, and thanks again Scott...
rovalle 2011-07-20 10:20:13
also, a good place to split this if burning to disc (people still do that, right???) is between tracks 15 & 16...this show rocks!
scott_bernsteiN@hotmail.com 2011-07-20 11:14:42
Yeah, this WAS a good show. Even though it wasn't particularly well attended, the band was clearly having a good time. And they only generally followed their setlist (I will post a photo eventually), straying off by the 2nd song (Chuco's wasn't on the list)....
scott_bernsteiN@hotmail.com 2011-07-20 11:25:36
...and despite having seen them since 1995, I don't believe I've ever heard them play "Why Do You Do" before, which they played by special request. That was a treat! "Rattlesnake Shake" was pretty special too. "Chains Of Love" and "Shakin' Shakin' Shakes" were both excellent workouts (beyond the usual crowd pleasers like "Bertha" and "Mas Y Mas").

One thing I didn't note is that Louie Perez moved over to the drums when his guitar amp wasn't working -- I believe around the time of the "Runners" segment from tracks 16-19. I believe he stayed on drums until the end of the main set, but definitely ceded the kit again for the encore.

Thank you (You've a great mic...like mine)
rovalle 2011-07-20 16:52:19
Louie tends to stray to the Kit for the runners...

Ta very much.
