| still not buying the whole 12' up fob thing. I can see being right by the sbd being able to raise the stand up, but not being true fob. |

gotfob, i'm a little confused - are you saying that the recording shouldn't be called FOB becuase it's not truly in Front of the Board? or are you saying that you don't think that raising the mics to 12' is a good idea? as you are one of the tapers I have admired greatly throughout my entire history of knowing the band, i'd love to understand what you are saying and read about your thoughts on the sound of this recording. be well.

What he's saying is this stand was at the FOH running 12ft, not technically in the "FOB" position which would be directly FOB/DFC in the "pit", which if you were, you cannot (rather should not ever) run a 12" stand.
I saw this rig all weekend, and it's exactly where the taper describes, at the front right corner of the sbd cage, which historically I label as FOH (not OTS as that would be behind the board). FOH meaning at the sbd itself, not behind it.
Taylor, CK, Bean, SonicSound and myself were all in the traditional FOB location, DFC.
Not something we talk about, but what the hell.
LOVE the 4 channel DPA's though. Mad respect and props to this taper for pulling it down! I am a huge proponent of the high stand whenever possible, but I was also stunned at how little crowd interference we got in the "pit" all weekend.

sorry to keep blabbing but wanted to make one more observation - i find it very rewarding and worth the time and effort to do spot comparisons of all sources and not assume one will have more chatter / talkers than another. for example, the night one pull from this source has exceptionally little chatter, and while Lenny's and the other folks he mentions being grouped with have extremely little for a FOB, there is a bit more chatter there.
however, when i compared this one nasty little spot of the Destiny jam (right before Mike throws on that nasty Boogie On pedal...listen to Page throw it down right before that!!!), i found that Lenny's actually had LESS chatter than this FOH pull....which could have just been rowdy passersby, who knows, but it goes to show there is usually some variation from night to night even on the same rig so it's nice to keep anywhere from 2 to 4 sources for a show because with time you will find various aspects to love about them.

The Destiny jam had the big balloon Fish filled with balls enter the LOC FOB area from the back. It totally derailed the jam as it distracted the band. Could have been some odd screaming near anyone's stand at that time, though I don't remember anything excessive on my tape.
