A very long day yesterday. I had a very long stretch with work, 29 straight days before hitting the first 2 nights in Beantown, followed by the Brooklyn show (actually 3 as I hit both Jerry Joseph shows). On my "day off", I hit Randall's Island for some Trombone Shorty and the Dave Matthews Band. It took an hour and a half to get back to the hotel as a car was overturned near the entrance to the BQE West, so EVERYONE was forced to go into Manhattan, then back to Queens over the Queensboro Bridge (construction), etc. Had to get packed and up at 4:00 to hit Laguardia for my flight here.
CK(Grandson), picked me up and we were off to Benny's BBQ. Ate a Pulled Pork Plate with Cheese Grits, Baked Apples, and Sweet Tea, Yummy! Went to Chris and Becky's, seeded the DMB, packed our gear, and headed to the National to meet Drew, Brad, Jim, Derek, Craig, and the gang. Got to the venue and hit the downstairs bar. When it was time, we went through security and what a bag search by the overzealous guard. He spent 5 minutes on Craig's bag, and almost as long on mine! Now we know to suspect. We get inside and the owner watched as we hit the area behind the board. That is where they asked us to set up last year. He asked if we could all fit on 1 stand because the joint was sold out. He then wanted us in the front corner of the sound board area. Draws, our new sound engineer was cool with us behind him on the rail as it would block any idiots from his 2nd board. I sold it that way to the owner and he talked to Draws. ALL GOOD! With my gear set up and trying to ztream, I was content to set up DFC, even if it was 10 feet back of the front of the board.
The boys graced the stage at about 7:55 and opened with Wonderin' into a slow C Brown>Radio Child. The next 2, Dyin Man and TTMN are not my favorites, but Space Wrangler was great to hear after that pair. After Crazy, it was time to catch an Airplane. Let me tell you, the Takeoff Jam rocked out! Second Skin found an interesting location and it led into Goin' Out West to close it out. A very respectable 76 minute set.
After only 33 minutes, Heroes opened the 2nd set. Strap yourself in as we were headed for an awesome ride through some great songs and jamming! Impossible>Stop/Geaux>Cream Puff>Stop/GeauxI'm Not Alone>You Got Yours!!! This not only looked good on paper(chocolates too), but the playing was fierce and nasty. As usual, Schools (Hometown Hero) was the MVP, although it was a total team effort. The Pilgrimz>Katy was an awesome close to a great night of tunage!
We packed up and headed out, and at this point, I was ready to eat the ass end out of an alligator. Not a fan of fast food and Richmond is NOT a late night eaters delight. Suddenly, CK mentioned Sheets. My eyes lit up as I used to hit that gas station/snack bar in Cleveland whenever I could. Well, here, they are called Wawa. I went in and hit the touch screen and ordered. I ordered the Pizza Hero with Provolone Cheese, Pepperoni, Roasted Red Peppers, Buffalo Bleu Cheese Sauce (I know it sounds weird, but it really kicked up the sandwich), and Parmesan Cheese. I ordered an Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese for posterity, and to make sure I would not go to sleep hungry. A large cup of coffee and we were out the door to go home and start processing the show!
So, we got a killer show with NO drum solo, all songs. Great to hand with CK, Jim, Derek, Brad, Drew, other Brad, Paul, Craig, Robert, and the other tapers. It was nice to see Innis set up his mics. Too bad he forgot his deck! Maybe tonight he will have it.

Great show. Tonight after the show walk the four blocks to Capital Ale House. Huge beer selection and late night kitchen. I recommend the Frites and a Bell's Two Hearted.
