So everyone likes to check out a trainwreck from time to time and here I present you with the last ever GD related gig I will ever waste money on for your listening pleasure.

I should have stopped seeing their shows after my last Dead shows in '95. Everything else has just tarnished the memories for me.

The recording, however, came out nice so check it out if you want to hear Bobby flub the words one too many times or hear terrible segues between tunes.

All around a pretty disappointing experience for me. Phil still has the chops though and there are a few moments where he really shines.

Whoever chose Liberty for an encore should be shot...that tune sucks IMO and was the nail in the coffin for an all around bad show.

Enjoy :)

really?
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 17:03:45
Sadly yes, just being honest.

The recording does sound very good IMO though.

There were only 5 tapers that turned out for this show and seven different sets of mics. I'm sure some others will surface soon as well.

well, thank you for sharing, and i'm sorry you didn't enjoy the experience.
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 17:15:08
Can't win 'em all I guess. I did enjoy the China Doll and Stella Blue.
ccmuzik 2011-10-06 17:21:33
hot dog - I enjoyed the show quite a bit. However I don't try to compare too much - I think it's a healthy thing for people to decide they no longer have the engery to participate and fade away. Have fun on the cheese tour - that should be phenominal cheesecadet.
ccmuzik 2011-10-06 17:24:48
I had stopped going to shows in 92ish and then ended up with tickets for the 95 opener run in Oakland and that was my trainwreck moment - left the first show mid second set. Nothing enjoyable from that mess. Thanks for the pull.

Your statements about the music are sad cheesecadet. You prolly shoulda stopped seeing shows before 1995, because you were complaining then too im sure. If you've seen any of the set lists the band uses on stage you'll notice that they don't pick the encore till they are ready to play it. You should stick to Jimmy Buffet. It doesn't disappoint because there is nothing there to get yer hopes up for.
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 18:11:25
Thanks for the tip Damian, although I never complained about shows back in the 90s. I felt fortunate enough to have seen the Dead play at all. I put this up because I knew some folks would want to hear it even though it did nothing for me personally. FWIW I have no problems with Jimmy Buffett's music. It's not all that bad drinking a margarita or daqueri on those rare occasions with a little of his music...not my fave by any means, but not horrible either.
gratefuldave78 2011-10-06 18:37:36
i am going to bite my tongue. can anyone rip into this cheese guy for me?
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 18:54:15
Sorry I don't hold the same opinion of he band as some of you obviously do. I wasn't insulting you guys personally. You guys must be pretty uptight to get you panties in a bunch about a couple comments made by me. I'm entitled to my opinion just as you are....enjoy the torrent anyway.

I haven't heard this show, but I am far from impressed with anything I have heard from this tour. I have heard every show from the September 2009 shows up until the Red Rocks shows from last week along with seeing 10 shows in between. I have always backed these guys whenever someone says something negative; however, they seem really bored this tour. There seems to be a lack of energy.....like they're just going to work. Anyway, thanks for your time, effort, and free music to the community.

Hey Cheesecadet. Thanks for sharing this show. Furthur is not the Grateful Dead. I think of them as a Dead cover band. If you go in with that attitude you'll enjoy the show. I did and I can't wait to hear this recording. Thanks for getting this show up so fast.
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 19:29:20
Maybe it was just an off night for them then. The playing to me was really uninspired overall. Like I said earlier there were a few tunes that were cool to hear and played well but overall it just wasn't for me.

Would like to know what you all think of the recording if you get a chance. This was the first time I have run openly at this venue and was pretty impressed with the way the recording came out. I think the recording sounds better than it did in the room the other night.

I will say that I also did like the keyboard player. That guy has some chops.
jazzgtrl4 2011-10-06 19:49:49
Cool, thanks for the pull.....was this the OTS? they didnt stick the tapers all the way in the back next to the bar like they did last year?
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 20:26:46
Nope we were up next to the board this year
waxandwayne 2011-10-06 20:48:04
I must've been at a different show than most everyone else. If you were talking about the 2010 Joint show, I would agree. They'd just blown the wad in L.A., and the most inspired moment was the Pink Floyd Time cover.

Tuesday night at the Joint, they were on fire! Sure, there's Bobby clams, but no one cried about the clams during the Dead daze. It's all part of the fabric. Like an Native American Indian rug, there's always an imperfection sown in, because if it was perfect, it's BAD luck.

Phil was on fire. His new song was great! The jam out of it, and the segue into China Doll was wonderful. Kadlecik (who I was VERY apprehensive about when he first joined), simply ripped all night. He's not buried in the mix anymore. His vox are up, and best of all, his guitar is now singing on top of the band. Instead of them leading him along -like last year- he's now leading the way.

The Viola sandwich in the 2nd set was a thing of beauty. Everyone around me was freaking out. I never heard a bad word from anyone. For me, it was a superior triumph over the dud show they turned in last year. While I have not heard the 1st night of the Greek in L.A., looking at the setlist on paper is uninspiring. Of course, that doesn't mean it was.

Night 2 of Red Rocks (which I was not at, but bought the show) is stupendous. I'm not having any issues at all.

Many thanks to the taper for his efforts. We all benefit from that. I value his opinion, even though I strongly disagree, but that's what keeps us all coming back. Thanks again!

Thanks for uploading.

I've been on both ends of the argument depending on my emotions at the time. I get it.

This tour has been getting bad reviews fwiw. Some folks whose opinion I respect have been fairly critical of what's going on of late.

I'm personally bummed they booked our 18k arena for $60 a ticket. I have really enjoyed seeing Furthur in the mid size venues (8k - 10k). Their shows are a novelty for me.

This music doesn't get pushed by any means. Jer pushed the music, even towards the end. There is no one in this band that can "push" this music. So the "slowness" and seemingly "offkey" performances don't sit well with some Heads.

YMMV.

"cause I love what I love and I want it that way"
cheesecadet 2011-10-06 21:41:11
I had no idea Furthur was even playing venues in the 8 - 10k range and higher. The Joint in Vegas only holds 4k...I'm guessing one of their smaller venues for the tour???
monkey140 2011-10-06 21:49:07
The Joint is a cool venue. Thank you for posting. Sorry you didn't enjoy the show.
