Here is last night's Tedeschi Trucks Band show from beautiful downtown Lynn. Sorry for the delay but you can blame it on a combination of work and after show eats! When I flew into Laguardia on Tuesday, Mike Mattison and Oteil Burbridge were both on my plane from Atlanta. I pretty much made up my mind about this show, so it was a pre-meditated show. After working all day, I grabbed my gear and headed up to Lynn. Hard to find the venue as I circled the area 3 times. It just so happens, the venue is a shared building with City Hall! I parked and headed over. To say Lynn is a sketchy area, is understated.
I bought a ticket for the nearly sold out show and went in. Wow, a very nice looking theatre. I hit the orchestra and went over to the board. It was right of center just at the balcony overhang. I figured Marty would be cool if I set up in that area. I spoke with Jamie, the General Manager. They killed a bunch of seats by the board so I "moved' in. I was happy.
Scrapomatic gave us a nice little 31 minute set. Before too long, Derek and Susan led the troops on stage. She is from the Boston area so folks were geeked to see her perform. And boy, did she ever. Never a bad performance from this group of musicians. The place went absolutely nuts after Learn How To Love. I got my Midnight in Harlem, not quite as good as the Beacon version last month, but zero complaints. Uptight has been on all 3 setlists of the shows I have seen recently.
Great hanging with my "new" friend Jay. He has played a major part since this venue has "re-opened" in the past 4-5 years. He has been on board to plan and execute the killer sound in this venue! He gave me a mini tour during the set. I even got to see the projection room with a pair of 1930's film projectors! I will say, I hit the last row of the balcony, and the back of the floor, and the sound is great in every location. We need to have them book some more shows here. Thanks to Marty for the killer sound! Got to see and thank Mike Mattison after the show outside.
After show eats based on a tip from Jay, was a trip with Luby to Green Tea Chinese Restaurant (Rama would be proud!) I devoured Baby Clams with Black Bean Sauce, Spicy Pork lo-Mein, Boneless Spare Ribs, Crab Rangoon, and Hot Sour Soup. Aside from the water being served in small wine glasses, the food was excellent!
