Here is last night's Furthur show from Portland. Sorry for the delay, but I had to stop at Lang's Chinese for a take out, then drive a couple of hours back to Boston. At work now, so had to grab a few zzzz's. This IS the goods, make no bones about it! I was thinking about hitting this show after I caught New Hampshire the previous night. I worked till about 4:20, received a text from Luby, "are you going to Maine tonight", and got on line to see it was only a 2 hour ride. I rolled the dice that Friday afternoon rush hour traffic would not keep me down. The traffic Gods were on my side, as after 15 miles of hell on I-95, it was smooth sailing until I got off my exit. All in all, I was inside by 6:50 for the 7:00 start time. So, I had 27 minutes to set up. I threw my stand up between Peter and Greg, and ran my bag next to Chip. Sick Nick was just behind us, and Matt was on the front line as well. Tonight, there were 8 tapers, double the 4 from the night before.
The first set rawked. Passenger>Cosmic to start, are you kidding? Born Cross-Eyed>Crazy Fingers>Come Together>Deal, wow! Some of the transitions were seamless! After Stranger, Brown-Eyed closed the set. Weird set ender since they played Deal 2 songs prior. That was a bit odd.
After a 47 minute break, China-Cat kicked off set II. I was not expecting I Know You Rider as they seem to really break this combo up these days. It flowed into Mountain Song, and this has become one of my favorites the past 2 years for 2 reasons. First, they kill it! Second, it is usually surrounded by "A" list songs. Both reasons confirmed by the St Stephen that was next. They jammed the Stephen out and you could feel a split, but a Stephen>Dark Star sammy? You've got to be kidding! Then the Eleven>Other One>Unbroken? The last note of The Other One, was the first note of Unbroken. This happened on several tunes tonight. So spot on, it was uncanny. After Stella Blue, you just knew it was time to finish the China>Rider. So the 2nd set had NO songs less than 37 years old! After Phil spoke, Touch of Gray ended the evening.
A superb night of music, I made the right decision. Still feel that was as I am at work! Great to hang with Peter, Matt, Greg, Nick, and Chip in the section. Nice to meet the 2 Dougs as well. Derek had it dialed in better than New Hampshire except a tad of feedback on one song in the first set. Preston kicked ass on the new light set-up. More exploratory and stretching effects in my humble opinion.
A stop at Lang's Express on St. John's Street for some killah Pork Foo Young, Spicy Lo Mein, and BBQ Pork. It was superb!

got the stand and mics are at 8 feet high!!!
