The Charlottesville Allstars are: From Indecision: Chris White (vocals, acoustic guitar) & Doug Wannamaker (keyboards),From Aphelia: Kristen Asbury (vocals), From DMB: Leroi Moore (saxophone), Boyd Tinsley (violin) & Carter Beauford (drums), Houston Ross (bass), Darrell Rose (percussion), Johnny Gilmore (drums), Mike Durham (electric guitar)
Notes: This was the first of the Cville Allstars shows. Chris White mentions if everyone likes this performance that they may do it again. Boyd mentions that the musicians may be back the next week on Tuesday or Wednesday which turned out to be the 1/12/93 show. The DAT ends after track 16 but there may have been more to this set, perhaps an encore track
Taper's notes: I remember hearing either at or after the 1992 DMB New Year's show that Dave went to South Africa for a few weeks in January. I would guess that the shows billed as The Charlottesville Allstars that took place over the first few weeks of 1993 were meant in retrospect to not only keep the Tue/Wed vibe at Trax and The Floodzone going but more importantly to keep that weekly influx of now dependable cash coming into both scenes. If there were more than 4 of these shows billed as The Charlottesville Allstars then I must have missed them. I only went to the Richmond gigs at The Floodzone and for some reason most likely having to do with drinking beer and a girl only recorded one. Sorry y'all but what we do have here is an interesting snap shot back into early 1993 and a recording of what was a at least at the time a whole lot of fun.
Picked up this DAT directly from Mark Lynn on a recent visit to a friend and Mark happened to live close by. Thanks to Mark for lending me this DAT to convert and circulate to the community.
Compiled by Tom Gambichler on October 11, 2011
UPDATE: Retracked Set II due to discrepancies on the tracking plus being advised about the track name of Track 12 as well as better info on Track 10 which is really 3 separate songs. Thanks to Dan Cheatham for the help on all this.
Special thanks to Larry Jeter of Dimensions in Music store in Baltimore for the help identifying one of the Miles Davis covers

This was the first of 4 shows with local Charlottesville musicians in addition to 3 members of dmb.
Any help with Track # 5 which is a Miles Davis cover would be great! I sampled so many Miles Davis songs and asked for help from a jazz record store owner and he came up with the name for Track 16, but Track 5 is still a mystery.
Enjoy everyone! |

| to my recollection, there were maybe one or two more of CVA, but i could be mixing up...that was one beauty of the cville scene, was that there was much intermingling of musicians. Down Boy Down (boyd's duo) did the sunday night thing at the blue ridge brewery and there were some BAD ASSED sit-ins there from Darrel Rose and LeRoi...they did a "Low Rider" that went for like 15 minutes and was face melting. thanks again for this, i'm VERY stoked to get home and get to d/l-ing. THANKS! |

Good times... Tuesday Nights at Trax... I may have been at this one, there were so many, and all of them were drunk fests...
Thanks!

| Jan 6, 1993 was a Wednesday which would have been the Flood Zone show rather than the Tues night Trax show right? Are the date & venue both correct? |

| Davis is right. Pretty sure this was from The Floodzone. Check the label of the DAT I gave you. I can check the master when I get home but pretty sure it says Floodzone. |
