|-- THE SHACK PROJECT --
This is an effort to seed all existing MMW shows, and yes, preserving the audio of the original SHN/FLAC filesets -- but now with a twist. We are now seeding ID3 FLAC encoded filesets of db.etree sources which still maintains the audio integrity. The seeding will proceed chronologically for the most part, with exceptions as we feel the vibe to seed other gigs from other times.
Thanks to MMW for allowing their music to be recorded....really, thank you.
Huge thanks goes out to the tapers, without whom this wouldn't be possible...and those that have helped get the tunes to our ears.
And thanks to the other 5 guys I've dragged into this and who seem committed to the cause: Louie, Mike Tom, Todd & Jeff....we're all listening to these shows and hopefully circulating the best versions.
All shows listed here in SHN/FLAC will be seeded:
These shows will be seeded as well, either by me or by one of a few other kind souls:
Shows listed here circulate in some manner. We are looking for as close to the original source as we can get so if you can help out with any of the following, we'd all appreciate it:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwneeds (this list is in the process of being compiled...maybe forever?)
enjoy the grooves
***FOR ALL YOUR SETLIST NEEDS***
MMW Performance History @ http://mmwhistory.com - this is a fantastic resource that allows you to look at info on gigs by MMW and related side projects and guest appearances; big thanks to Tom for creating this page.
We are actively updating all setlists as we seed, and also others outside the particular order of the project.
db.etree is also being updated in tandem with the updates to Tom's pages -- both the source and show pages.

And another Merry Xmas wish to those hopping on this torrent! Happy Holidaze!
What we've got here is MMW at the opposite end of the spectrum from the 4/28/2007 acoustic gig I'm also seeding right now. This show is FREAKIN' AWESOME! The opening Improv is hot leading > a quick Bass Solo that finds us in a TRIO ONLY version of Miles Behind -- and it is incredibly energetic. That energy moves forward to a fun New New Orleans, which is just always a good time. Cat Creeps was a tune we were digging but not knowing the name at this time -- it's temp name had been "Creeping" or something like that though, oddly enough! HA! That tune opens up the remaining run of the set and breaks down to an Orang intro > Tubby > an always welcome Dracula, and a tune that doesn't often close a set: New Planet. I dig it!
Fuck You Guys was brand new at this time -- I think this was it's 2nd performance, after debuting at the Fillmore in Colorado back in April. We were calling it "Fillmore Freak" for a while until somebody caught site of an onstage setlist at an MSMW gig and saw it was noted as "Fuck You" on one night and Fuck You Guys on another. It's recent release in the 20 download series confirms the title as Fuck You Guys. (Speaking of which, if you haven't grabbed those 20 studio tracks released this past year, why the hell not?!? Go and get them, NOW!) Baby Goats was still new at this time, dubbed "New '07" for a while, but actually originating in some Medeski trio gigs outside MMW in the summer of '06. Back & Forth, always catching flack, was also new at this time -- I totally dig the carnivalesque feel to the song, and Chris always tears it up. What'd I Say is some good blues .. but the Spy Kiss > Shackman (aka After the Onsen) and the Sugar Craft to close ends the evening on a high note, for sure with Logic helping the guys create some crazy sounds through Set II.
I just listened to this show again the other night ... good times.
|not positive, as no setlist or recording has surfaced, but I feel like fuck you guys was played at the Atlanta show on 3/8. I also know it was taped, but foolishly did not talk to the taper, assuming it would just show up here. again, as memory serves it was a smoking show.
also, I have a minidisc copy of the uncirculating 05/01/05 show if anyone is interested in transferring it. my recorder was stolen, but I still have the disc. never got around to transferring it. let me know: nelsorp at hotmail dot com
thanks for all these recent posts
|Amy insight from someone on the title of 'Fuck You Guys'. Fuck WHO?
|Billy had his kit setup totally with his back to the audience. Chris was on fire from the get-go. awesome Dracula. awesome to see Logic. awesome to be in NOLA. i also remember someone tossed a beer bottle on stage... not cool... but funny in retrospect.
thanks for this.
|I always thought Fuck You Guys was aimed toward us... in the same way I always thought Whiney Bitches was...
I just remember in late 2003 / early 2004 some of us on the MMW email list starting making up song titles in order to keep track of all the new songs. Some of us got into an argument on the email list about the propriety of doing that. Shortly thereafter, MMW names a song Whiney Bitches, so I always thought it was about us...squabbling over song titles.
|HA! Randy, I know Tom and I wondered the same thing -- if Fuck You Guys was directed towards those of us trying to track songs they never announce titles for ... kinda like, "nice try, but too bad!" HA! Never thought of it in relation to Whiney Bitches, but now that makes perfect sense for fitting with this theory too ... Seems they like being elusive with the titles though ... or just non-commital until a tune ends up released ... but who knows! HA!
|Ha, I agree with Randy about Whiney Bitches and Fuck You Guys. I will say that one of my finest (or dorkiest, both apply) MMW song title moments came just after the 7.01.06, Warsaw, Poland show. I talked to Billy and asked him about the new tune, which I had been calling "New Evil Creep," and he advised that the tune was actually called "Cat Creeps." We were both pretty surprised at how close the titles were. I guess that means the song has a pretty fitting title!
Cheers and have a great 2012!
|Double HA! HA! Ryan, that's a great story about Cat Creeps -- and get this: I had dubbed the tune "Creeping" until we got an official title! HA! Yep! Sounds like the title fits! HA!
Happy New Year to all as well!
