Show: Enjoyable show, with Scott's standard self-deprecating stage banter. Rayna Gellert's violin adds a nice dimension
to his solo show. Recording is a bit quiet and I had the gain switch wrong for a few songs (sorry!) but it sounds pretty nice in headphones.

Notes:
- Ashland Coffee & Tea is a great place to see a show. They emphasize a quiet "Listening Room". As long as you don't make dumb technical mistakes(!) this is a great place to see and record a performance.
- Tracks 1 - 6 were recorded with gain switch on CA-9100 set to either 0 or +10 accidentally (don't use right angle connector next to gain switch!). Had to do 20db boost and -12db EQ to high freq. There's a little hiss as a result. Track7 on I didn't have to touch
- applied 6db boost to entire thing as it was kind of a quiet show
- did best to edit out pop when I switched gain in track 2 and again after end of song in track 6
- A couple trains came by, most noticeable but not exactly bothersome in track 22
- 44.1 resample: interpolation 2, anti-alias filter
- 16 bit conversion: dither triangular, noise shaping off

I figured there might be a few folks here interested. Hope you enjoy it.
It was a good show with a good mix of old and new stuff and everything in between. I haven't listed to For Crying Out Loud much but I think Appalachian Refugee might be one of my new favorites.
It's a nice, quiet place to see a show. It's so quiet you pick up things like the guy in front of us trying to give the waitress too big of a tip toward the end =)

Agreed re AC&T. Seen a handful of shows there, including Scott's pre-blizzard show from a couple years back. Was sitting near the board for this one.
Interestingly, he left Appalachian Refugee off 'For Crying Out Loud' (it was on the demo disc that he sold to finance FCOL) and enough folks raised enough hell that he put it on the website for dl.

You're right! It's not on For Crying Out Loud (tho it's listed on the website as being there and I used that for reference here) but I have it on the demo disc. Hmmm.
I hear there's a full length disc in the works for release later this year.
I was sitting in the very back corner which seems to be a sweet spot about equal distance between pa's and just about in line with soundboard. Show sounded really good from there and the recording turned out decent all things considered. I might not use the pre-amp for an acoustic show next time.

I prefer the front table 1 or 2 tables from the entrance. That puts me directly under a PA stack and I can pickup stage sound from amplified stuff with vocals and fill from above.
It's different. The pain is you have to be waiting in line before they open the room for that table. |
