I was looking forward to a two-hour UM show after dark following their fantastic 1:15 set during the day at last year's festival. There were way too many frat boys and sorority girls in the crowd, high fiving and hugging, and paying more attention to each other than the band.
Aside from that, this was a great show and the band looked like they were having a blast. I'm glad they were invited back.
Despite all the goofs in the crowd, the recording came out much better than I expected. The band was loud enough to drown out most of the crowd murmur, but you can get the idea how noisy it was during some slower passages .
I appreciate the show more after listening to it at home a couple times. I look forward to seeing Umphrey's again.

|Thanks for persevering. I wish there was an editing feature that could remove idiots from a crowd.
|I hear ya, foolosopher. Honestly though, the recording came out much better that I would have imagined. The UM show was one I was really looking forward to, but the crowd just ruined it a bit for me, and that's not just from a taper perspective. I expect people to have fun at a show, especially when I'm FOB in the crowd, but just standing around with your back to the band running your mouth is bullshit.
But I'm still floored most of the crap I was experiencing didn't translate to the recording, at least not as much as I thought it would. Hell, it's one of the best recordings of the weekend.
|still sounds good even with people trying to talk over the music. i felt that vibe the ENTIRE weekend. there were a lot of people there just to be there, not to get down to awesome live music
