Terrapin Crossroads is taper friendly now?
NJFunkNetwork 2012-06-18 20:14:18
I doubt it. An iPhone is about as low profile as it comes.
spunterrapin 2012-06-18 20:16:06
From Terrapin website:

"we do hope that you respect the integrity of the music and keep the flashes and recording devices out of sight."
spunterrapin 2012-06-18 23:19:09
I just wear my invisibility cloak.....

NJFunkNetwork 2012-06-18 23:26:10
Thanks, and BTW, that little iPhone mic thing looks pretty cool. It's only a matter of time now until there is an Oade iPhone concert mod and a high end mini iPhone mic from DPA, and then the iPhone will be as good as any 10 grand rig. LOL.

Sounds great, my friend. Thank you:) 6-16 anyone?
weirhornsbykimock 2012-06-22 16:54:00
The sound on this is good except.....all you hear is dude coughing and clearing his throat every two minutes which is very distracting.
Its a shame to because the sound is really good and this is such a great line-up and the music is played so well.
I made it from St. Stephen to Uncle John's Band before I just deleted the recording as each song is riddled with the sound of someone clearing their throat every few minutes...drink some water! You can hear it about 10 times alone within St. Stephen.
Thanks for sharing this...I'm sure many don't mine the distraction but I have so much other stuff that I'll skip this.

Are you for real, weirhornsbykimock? Have you actually listened to any other audience recording from Terrapin where 'no visible recording' (i.e. no mic stands) is allowed? (Originally the policy was "be in the moment, no recording at all" but seems to have evolved.)

Listening to the recordings that have popped up here and there, there are huge noticeable audible flaws throughout almost all of them. Yes you can hear me cough a few times on this one though you greatly exaggerate the number. On other recordings have you heard people talking loudly though the show, laughing, screaming, yelling, singing along, rattling their empty cup of ice ICE up by their head throughout the set (check out Telstar 5/27 mid set for this...) One of the first two Q shows has very excellent evidence of the recordist belching very loudly (which I actually thought was kind of funny...) This is by nature a document of a place that is often not well suited for recording.

This is a labor of love, these shows deserve to be recorded and circulated and there is a real dearth of people doing it either at the amateur or professional levels. If you can do it better, or even if you can do it at all, please go ahead and record these shows yourselves. Personally I'd rather not deal with recording these shows at all, I'd have a more relaxed time myself and just buy a well recorded official soundboard or martix from Phil's people (if it existed) or d/l an audience recording by a taper with a stand and a decent rig (that's not right under talkers.) However it is hard to come by almost any recording from this venue so those of us who wish to re-listen to some of this amazing music have to take what we can get. This was my effort and I hope everyone but the complainers enjoy it.

I love this show. Think recording sounds great given circunstances. Keep up the good work. Love hearing these Rambles. Fresh. Weirdest Cucamonga i've ever heard. Awesome!!
weirhornsbykimock 2012-06-25 18:07:40
Uhtheem...you must be spun.
The question is are you for real....I did thank you for your efforts so don't get all self rightious on me for stating a fact on what is audible on this. The sound is awesome except for the distraction of bodily noises. You can easily hear you clear your throat every two minutes.

Like huht heem I said all I listened to was from St. Stephen to UJB and in St. Stephen alone you clear your shit 10 - 12 times anybody can hear it plain as day and count themselves. Maybe hutheam before St. Stephen is fine I didn't listen to it.

Any recording is always appreciated and a lot of people usually like to know the sound quality and I stated what this sounded like.
You can't help the talkers or what noises other people make to taint the sound quality of a recording but you can help yourself to some water next time.
Thanks again uhtheem!

Actually WHK is right on the money here. I was easily able to hear what he's talking about and found it pretty distracting but other than that the sound quality is really good but a little hard to listen to because of the tapers throat issues. No need to be an asshole to the guy when he is only letting others know what this recording sounds like.
THANX
spunterrapin 2012-06-25 21:06:34
yes I don't deny the coughing exists.. it is particularly bad during stephen > 11. An old college buddy was passing me a doob of some dry stuff at the setbreak and in retrospect I wish I had lit mine instead and you all wouldn't have as much to bitch about. I know it's a pet peeve of Keith Jarrett so much so that he has people hand out baskets of cough drops at his concerts and has on many occasions walked off stage and/or cancelled his concerts because people in the audience were coughing or clearing their throats.

It is what it is but when I get people complaining like that it makes me less likely to do all the extra work to share these with world at large and so quickly at that. Mainly I do it just so I can go back and listen to some of this stuff which requires me to record it myself.

Sorry if my comments were perceived as being an asshole. I think there should be a caveat on any recording from Terrapin Crossroads that says - "Caution may contain coughing, belching, talking, screaming and other random noise."

Frustrating though that he listened to the part (Stephen > 11) that had the worst coughing. Most of the recording is clean though there are a few scattered coughs elsewhere, mostly in the second set for reasons I mentioned above.

Well honestly this whole TC taping thing is FRUSTRATING. Terrapin needs to either start selling their shit or allow stand tapers or both!!!! Some of the best post-gd music is being made right now and only 200 heads at a time in the bay area can hear it.
spunterrapin 2012-06-26 14:49:52
Though to add a positive note that except for my coughing, this was one of the QUIETEST TC crowds I've seen... good work guys and gals!
GuinnessGoon 2012-07-12 14:30:49
Thank you so much for sharing this but once I listened to it I got bummed fast. There are a lot of distracting coughing throughout this to the point where I just deleted it. I listened to the whole first set then just gave up. Hopefully Phil will sell this as a soundboard as this is one of the few TC shows that look good line-up wise that didn't have Fake Jerry or Warren involved.
Thanks for the efforts.
GuinnessGoon 2012-07-12 14:32:32
Ha I just read others comments and they had the same issues. Man I didn't even make it to St. Stephen I wonder how bad it got after that. Still thanks for your efforts.
