This AUD recording epitomizes the very best of the Grateful Dead "live sound" for the time. The prototype Wall of Sound is nailed by Alembic and the sound crew for this show. Set within an outdoor Stadium, this close-up infield FOB spatially captures sound from the two Aux PA towers on the infield, behind the taper. This sound delay adds a touch of ear candy as it rolls around the stadium. June 9 was my first time taping. June 10 was a Modal Spectacle. These shows at RFK Stadium were by far the best sound I ever heard come out of a PA System, period. It was a sensational orgy of sound.

Matt Smith did a great job transferring these tapes of mine! Thank you!

I'll bet your arm was tired by the end of the show!
meskype 2012-07-03 09:03:20
I second enjoying the previous show - that sound was sweet. Maybe not the "best" as other people were 'nice' enough to point out, but in fact the mix was pretty fat, with a very clear Hammond B3 via Keith - all other players clear and equal in the mix.

Hey my name is Barry Smith! Thanks Monte Barry and Mike Smith
crookedman76 2012-07-03 14:30:29
Thanks Monte, your tapes are a very welcome addition to the community for those of us who cherish pre-hiatus auds.

Right on! The sound's definitely a big improvement over the previous transfer. I love how clear and chunky Phil's bass is. And it's a blast to hear the audience get increasingly locked in with the band as the show goes on. Thanks a ton!

Got to listen to the 1st set of this last night, and it settles in spectacularly. Jerry is just smoking' through that PITB and the sound here is wonderful. LLR and Row Jimmy also particularly full and glowing to my ear on this tape.

For all the millions of little moments that make GD so rewarding, sometimes the greatest treat is to just step back and give a long listen to a quality aud of one of the early mega-shows where they really get rolling and just hit it out of the park. Those huge crowds are just pulled along for the ride and there's no substitute for being in the mix of that with some quality gear.

Nice upgrade to my earlier source; like being there :)

Thanks for these

i you can remember it, you were not actually there. i do not believe your stories, but this is a great recording. the stereo seperation and bass response is incredible. this recording must have been made very close to the stage or pa stack. it is hard to make an audience recording that sounds this good today. i can only guess that the dead's pa system had something to do with this.
