source:
Schoeps mk41 > kc5 > cmc6 > Aeta PSP-3 > Apogee Mini-Me > Sony Vaio @ 24 bit / 48 kHz

transfer:
.WAV > Samplitude SE v9.1.1 (invert one channel, fades, track splits) > SoX 14.4.0 (resample to 44.1 kHz, dither to 16 bit) > FLAC v1.2.1 (Level 8)

recorded by Geoff Lynch
transferred by Jason Sobel (jasonsobel@gmail.com)
seeded August 8, 2012

notes:
On the original recording, the polarity of one channel was opposite relative to the other channel.
I inverted one channel, so that the two would channels would be in the same relative phase.
FLAC tags added with metaflac v1.2.1
Big thanks to Geoff for sending me the raw files.
these 16 bit / 44.1 kHz files can be burned to audio CD

There is a very minor drop-out at [04:01] in "Runaway Jim".
This was present in the original master WAV file.
It sounds like a *very* minor blip, and isn't really very noticeable.

How does one get the polarity flipped in one channel compared to the other?

>> How does one get the polarity flipped in one channel compared to the other?

it could happen any number of ways... one of the XLR cables could have been mis-wired (I don't think that is the case here, though, because then it would be consistent on all of Geoff's recordings, and it is not consistent). More likely, I don't think that the USB audio connection from the Mini-Me to the laptop was very robust. I think it was a little "wonky", and that for whatever reason, the audio program on the laptop (or the USB connection) flipped the polarity of the one of the channels. It didn't happen on all of Geoff's recordings, but it happened on many. There were also other "24 bit" recordings that Geoff made with this setup, and only 16 bits of data were actually recorded. I don't know if that was a mis-setting on the Mini-Me, a mis-setting on the audio program, or because the USB audio connection was a bit "wonky" (My guess is the last reason, because I have a couple of Geoff's recordings where one set is actually 24 bit, and the other is just 16 bits of a data in a 24 bit file. and I'm pretty sure that Geoff didn't change any settings in between sets, so I think that the most likely culprit is the USB audio connection from the Mini-Me to the laptop).
