unfortunately, like the 5-17-92 source you seeded a couple days ago, this also suffers from pitch issues. it just seems to be a hair slow. aside from that, these recordings sound great!!!

|If I have some time over the holiday break here, I'll start working on fixing the pitch of this and re-seeding it hopefully for before the new year.

| Thanks A-Train please let me know if of your findings:Is it only with the 100 minute tapes?By how much is it off and how much you used to correct it.Sorry folks I won't mess with pitch corrections myself unless I know 100% for sure that it is my Nak MR-1 that is off and by how much ;-) Too many more to get through and too little time.

|To my ears, it sounds exactly one semitone off. Knowing that deck has a pitch control, it's either in need of calibration or it's broken.....or something is whacky in your DSD > PCM conversion....
For future reference, may I suggest playing a song that you know the key of (Like Rift is in G) and adjust it for the transfer....record a portion and check the tune in your editor and then adjust your deck before making the "real" transfer.
keo....I used my DAW and a plethora of toys to calculate and correct the pitch, did some minor edits (fades where they need to be mostly), re-tracked 'n flac'd....should be seeded here shortly.
Thanks for doin the leg work! Speaking from experience, I fully understand the hard work involved!

|* Just to add....keo, it appears that tape length doesn't matter....each one you've put up is roughly 1 semitone off.....consistantly.
| Excellent Arty this is just input I've needed to help narrow down where the pitch problem is coming from.My deck just recently came back from getting work done.Playback head was adjusted to manufacturer's specs,a seized pully to one of the motors replaced and an electrical part which was fried-that ran the motor to the Play/Stop/rewind/Fast Forward controls.This part was upgraded as well giving more in the ghz range I believe.The guy working on the deck said it was in excellent shape and I have to agree,but one of the upgrades or parts replaced could be throwing the pitch off,but one other thing you have not touched face on with these is that very possibly the tapers original deck is off to start with;-) maybe you could listen to some of the other transfers I have done recently as well-you know where to look if you need help with reseeds,this will help me out tremendously as I have boxes of master tapes to get through yet as well ;-)For now as we narrow this down I will have one more set of masters from this taper to share for Phish which I will seed as is-first two are on metal tapes the next is on a high bias tape (This could also be a problem with metal tapes and how the Nak MR-1 handles the 20+ year old tapes)These transfers are all ready done and in que to work on/track out next.Also Arty I would have to think that my Korg and DSD>PCM conversions are fine as I also have been sharing things I recorded and worked up in the AudioGate Software with no problems at all to the pitch.Thanks for taking your time in helping with this:-)

|That is true too keo.....do you know what kind of deck these were originally taped with? Sony decks are NOTORIOUS for speed issues, especially the D5 model which was hugely popular back in the day.
The tapes condition might play a role too, but there are fixes for that (dry lubricant on the INSIDE of the tape on the plastic bushings).....but even that *shouldn't* contribute drastically to the speed of playback....I've got tapes that went through a flood that I have just recently transferred that came out just fine.
I would maybe try playing one on a different deck to see if the issue is the deck or the tape.
