|'94 - probably my favorite year for Phish. Lots of debuts at this show.
|Curious... If d3t06 was the only one FIXed (presumably by padding the end), why do ALL the Set IIE: FIXed SHNs have a different MD5???
|My only guess is that I started the fix at a different starting point, i.e. per set instead of the entire show. Not sure, exactly, if I'm honest. All I know is that my process never changed from show to show.
|One of the first shows that I ever got on tape, and still one of my favorite Wolfman's.
|Terry, should it be redone?
|So... After about an hour of SHN>WAV converting and then experimenting with SHNTOOLs and TLH, I've come to the conclusion that you are doing it right...
The problem with this SHN set (and with others I'm sure) is that the Original SHN MD5 doesn't match itself when you convert SHN>WAV>SHN with TLH. Not sure why, maybe it has to do with how the Original SHN MD5 was created, or maybe it has to do with .SKT files being appended (MKW), or maybe it has to do with the something else... I don't know...
1- Original SHN file set Verifies with Original SHN MD5.
2- SHN converted to WAV and back to SHN produce a different SHN MD5 (Not sure why???).
3- SHN>WAV>SHN files do NOT Verify with Original SHN MD5. New SHN MD5 does NOT match Original SHN MD5.
4- WAV MD5s for both above however do match.
5- More experimenting needed, but FIXing the WAVs in TLH, either with Shifting Forward or Shifting Backward, produced the same exact WAV MD5 results.
6- Both results in TLH match the results I produced with SHNTOOLs per WAV MD5.
Man, I'm glad you are updating these Sources! This is a PITA!
|At the end of it all, all of the WAV MD5s I produced match the one you posted...
|Thanks for doing all that checking! I never meant for anyone to have to "check my work" but I'll never mind it, as I'm as human as anyone else, maybe a little less so...and after converting almost 500 shows there may or may not be a mistake in there. I'm pretty sure I ran the md5s through TLH before doing anything for each show in this project, just to make sure I didn't have an incomplete or corrupt file, which did happen on rare occasions. I would have zero clue as to why a different result would come from a shn>wav>shn conversion as my expertise falls a bit short of that sort of stuff.
Just for the record for everyone...I verify md5s, check for canonical headers, test for SBEs, fix by set (not disc) if necessary, then to wav, then to FLAC, then tags. I make sure to include wav md5s so that anyone can check my work against their original shns if they desire. Sorry if any terminology above isn't exactly proper - I was supposed to leave work early but instead I'm stuck here, tired, in drizzly Philly when I could be uploading another April '94.
I would have used the hub to get the original shns after reading your question but for some reason one program I use keeps making my one external drive reset every ten minutes or so and the other gave me the "blue screen of death" the last few times I tried to run it...so until I'm in a position to have a dedicated hub seed box I'll have to forgo using the hub for anything for the time being.
|If you can't make it to the hub and you need something specific, let me know and I can get it to ya.
|Thanks Jeff! So far so good though!
| - Thanks !!
