Transfer: My patch master dat from sony d-7>Sony DTC-690> Audioquest
Optilink 1> SEK'D Prodif Plus> Samplitude v5.5> Soundforge xp
4.5 (resample @ 4/4 with anti alias filter)> Cdwav 1.6>
Mkw act 0.97b1

Edits: I did a 20 second fade in on the first disc. The levels were
very high as the band took the stage and there is a big jump
downward at the instant maze starts. This seems to lesson the
jump somewhat. No music was faded only crowd.
Also the encore break had a pause so there was a level
difference there..I removed between 79:42:50 and 79:43:00 to
remove the actual break point.Which is between D2 and D3.
Again no music disturbed only crowd.

Flaws: The following appear and are on the master.
D1T04 2:23 PA Distortion
D1T10 1:39 PA Distortion
D2T04 4:35 PA Distortion

Fantastic job by the taper here. Great sound.

OK - this show kicks friggin' ass. Terrific playing throughout but it's the second set that just melts your face. No pun intended but the Melt opener is above par, then a McGrupp is always welcome...and then...It's Ice. This is the best version of this song. The. Best. 12/7/97 with the descent into Swept Away>Steep is cute compared to this beast. I totally forgot what song they were playing the first time I heard this - I was mesmerized then and still am now every time. The Harry Hood is a personal fave of mine - a quick "Dixie" tease from Trey shortly after the "thank you Mr. Hood" line and it's off we go. Great Bowie, too, I'm very partial to this version.

This show is easily in the top handful for this spring tour for me - a show with stuff like Glide, McGrupp and BBFCFM is bound to be special and 4/8 Penn State definitely fits the bill. A must-have.

Sorry for such a long review but this one's worth it.

I have to echo the comments about this It's Ice. This song was always ripe for extended jamming, and I was never sure why they rarely did it (9/20/00 being the only other example, I think, of them taking it out there).
metawhy 2013-01-17 09:46:59
thanks for the info, geewiz! will download it's ice immediately
kayatosh 2013-01-17 12:04:08
thank you. sounds great.
camber 2013-01-18 06:29:27
Echo the sentiments. Just an incredible show. 2nd best show I ever attended.

Cannot be said enough......Best. It's Ice. Ever.

And the Split Open and Melt splits open and melts.

I can still feel the fear of those bleachers collapsing from the violent rocking back and forth during Sparkle.......good times, good times.
:P 2013-01-20 18:08:01
funny....1st sbd never seems to circulate.....
