Bios:

4Tet is a power troupe of contemporary folk music's deepest and most thoughtful tradition-bearers.
Pushing the boundaries, critiquing the conventions.

Brittany Haas is a 5-string fiddle player from the Bay Area, currently residing in Nashville.
She grew up honing her craft in fiddle camps nationwide, and came to her unique sound through
the old time fiddling of Bruce Molsky & and the innovative stylings of Darol Anger.
A prodigious youth, she began touring with Darol's Republic of Strings at the age of 14.
She simultaneously studied baboons in the evolutionary biology department of Princeton
University and joined seminal chamber-grass band Crooked Still. She has toured with them
since, and also performed with Yonder Mountain String Band, Tony Trischka, Alasdair Fraser
& Natalie Haas (her cellist sister), Abigail Washburn, and The Waybacks. She played her
fiddle on Steve Martin's Grammy Award-winning CD, "The Crow," and performed in his band
on Letterman and SNL. She released her debut self-titled solo album at 17, produced by
Darol Anger and featuring Bruce Molsky, Mike Marshall, Alison Brown and others. She recently
recorded a soon-to-be-released project with hardanger fiddler and composer Dan Trueman
featuring their own original music.  She also plays in a fiddle duo with Lauren Rioux
and an all-girl indie old-time band called The Fundies.

"So here is a real roots musician
in the most modern sense--Brittany Haas fiddles from a very deep and personal place, the
way she feels it, the way she wants to hear it, with seemingly infinite facility, and
a spirit that's simply uplifting." -- Bruce Molsky

Jordan Tice is a guitarist and composer from Annapolis, MD who currently makes his home
in Brooklyn, NY. The son of two bluegrass musicians, he grew up playing with various
bluegrass bands around Maryland until 2005 when he enrolled at Towson University to
study music on full scholarship. In addition to his studies, the next four years were
also marked by performances and recordings with the likes of Mark Schatz and friends,
Frank Wakefield, Darol Anger, and "Corbett, Chrisman, and Tice" featuring Wes Corbett
on banjo and Simon Chrisman on hammered dulcimer. Jordan's collaboration with Corbett
and Chrisman yielded a self titled record which was listed as one of the Chicago
Tribune's top 5 "best compact discs of the year" in the bluegrass/newgrass category
in 2008. Also in 2008, Jordan released his second record as a leader entitled "Long Story".
The record, featuring all Tice originals as well as an all-star band of Casey Driessen,
Noam Pikelny, Andy Hall, and Mark Schatz, brought about rave reviews from acoustic music
publications for its "engaging and melodic tunes" and "inspired solos" (Bluegrass Unlimited)
as well as being a "very musical album" (The Bluegrass Blog). Other highlights include
being featured on the cover of the January 2011 Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and performing
the music of actor/comedian Steve Martin for Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at New York
City's esteemed "Shakespeare in the Park" in summer 2012. Jordan's current project,
The Jordan Tice Trio, features Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers) on bass, and Simon Chrisman
on hammered dulcimer. Their debut release "The Secret History" released in late 2011
has been praised as containing "exceptional craft" (Bluegrass Unlimited). In addition to
performing with the trio, Jordan can be seen playing with Tony Trischka, the Footworks
Percussive Dance Ensemble, The Dan Trueman/Brittany Haas Band, The Depue Brothers Band,
Lily Henley, and Mariel Vandersteel.

Cleek Schrey: From Virginia, Cleek is a fiddler and composer living in New York City.
He holds degrees in Music and German Studies from the University of Virginia.
As a teen, he was mentored (and, sometimes, frightened) by the legendary fiddler
Brendan Mulvihill. Regular visits to the home of Paddy Reynolds, the great Longford
fiddler who settled in New York, helped to intensify Cleek’s interest in the fiddle
playing of the 78 rpm era. In 2005, the year of Paddy’s death, he co-produced the release
of archival recordings of the late Reynolds’ surviving work.Cleek was a featured musician
on The Raw Bar, a documentary on Irish music that aired on RTE 1 in Ireland, and most
recently on Féilte, a program on Irish music in America, for the Irish language station
TG4.Also an interpreter of Appalachian stringband music, his collaborative recording with
the old time fiddler Rhys Jones, called The Girl Who Broke My Heart, was released to
great acclaim. In the summer of 2010 their band, Bigfoot, garnered first place in the
traditional stringband competition at the prestigious Clifftop Appalachian Music Festival.
He also fiddles and flatfoots in the percussive dance ensemble Footworks, a group that
specializes in southern music and dance forms, under the direction of superhumans
Eileen Carson and Mark Schatz. His fiddling has graced (or assaulted) many stages,
large and small, with highlights including Orchestra Hall, Chicago (2004), Shetland
Folk Festival, UK (2005), The Kennedy Center, DC (2006), Maryland Hall, MD (2009),
Geneva Arena, SUI (2010), Lyceum Theater, NY (2012)

Nic Gariess

“A show-stopper...this Michigan native may be the most inventive and expressive
step dancer on the scene.  The nimble Gareiss called forth visions of Fred Astaire.”
